This week, I've learned that one of the best parts of moving into a new house is learning how the rain sounds from different rooms. It's different on a top floor or a lower one, from the back of the house or the front. As if the house is asking "How would you like your rain to sound this morning?"

This news is important because all the fucks out there actively attempting to wreck the world want you to think that the work is hopeless and just mitigating the worst case scenario. It's not. Fucking keep going.

Continually flabbergasted by Outlook's grammar suggestions. No, I promise the query isn't returning *to* results, it's simply returning results, the proposition isn't needed. No, I shouldn't remove the closing parenthesis before the period, don't know why you think the two are redundant.

Buying directly from your local bookstore is the best way to support its continued existence, but you can also support through ebook (bookshop.org) and audiobook (libro.fm) purchases. It's now so easy there's little reason not to.

Training someone to take over my volunteer responsibilities has spotlighted how poorly I've been fulfilling these volunteer responsibilities. If I was healthier, maybe I wouldn't be so far behind. Or maybe if someone listened when I asked for help, or when I said I needed to step down months ago.

Few things make me want to interact with someone less than unsolicited advice. I probably should respond more gracefully than I usually do but man. People really need to stop assuming they're an authority on others.

My observation is that insecure writers are terrified of being misunderstood and over-compensate. Others seem to think that the writer's job is to make readers imagine the exact same thing, with no variation. The most common unsolicited crit I get is from amateur writers telling me to explain more.

I know it's peanuts compared to other issues, but gen"AI" comments are absolute trash. It's never a genuine person. It's someone pretending to like your work to trick you into giving them money. Preying on the desire for your art to be appreciated. It's hard enough to be creative without this.

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.

The video title is more clickbaity than the actual video. These are earbuds designed to let you dictate in a quiet enough voice that others around you can't overhear. It does this by sending the audio to their corporate servers, where machine learning isolates your whispers from background noise.

It's Black Cat Appreciation Day! Ours crossed the rainbow bridge last summer, but here's an old photo in celebration of black cats everywhere. Yes, her bed is upside-down in this photo. It was the only way she would sleep on it.
Napping on an upside-down cat bed is a feline of maximum floof. Her sleeping position shows off the blackness of her face and legs, but also the brown of her mane and graying hairs of her belly. Dear reader, would you resist running your hand through that long, soft fur? But also, dear reader, would you cruelly wake an old lady who's sleeping so peacefully? Time has passed. The moment has gone. I no longer remember which decision I made. In this photo, I am forever choosing both.

It's always awkward when a friend acutely experiences a thing I chronically experience. Chronic issues require a massive toolset to manage, and you're typically expected to continue like nothing's wrong. Acute issues are often the opposite: fewer tools, more allowances made.

I made my own before it was cool. Bit of a lazy version though. For context, "wow that's a lot of stars" is the name of my ttrpg setting I cannot come up with a proper logo for. www.worldanvil.com/w/wow-that-s...
The text "wow that's a lot of stars" displayed in the style of "Now That's What I Call Music", with WOW and STARS displayed very large and THAT'S A LOT OF sandwiched between them. There's a rainbow outline surrounding all of it.

Now is a great time to make the switch from Audible to Libro.fm Why? Because Libro will be adding e-books to their offerings & one of the features will be "LibroSync: When you own both formats, you can toggle between the ebook and the audiobook, or follow the text while you listen."
libro.fm
Buy audiobooks & support local bookstores
Libro.fm makes it possible for you to buy audiobooks directly through local bookstores.
