In March, Washington State passed a tax on millionaires to fund public education, childcare, and expand its earned income tax credit. Now, special interest groups backed by the rich are trying to trick voters into repealing the tax by claiming it will apply to non-millionaires. Don't fall for it.

Washington State voters will get a chance to accept or reject the 9.9 percent income tax on millionaires approved by the Legislature, which broke the state’s taboo against levying income taxes.

New York would not be the city it is without the courage, service and sacrifice of our veterans and their families.

On September 13, we will come together for the first-ever City-sponsored Remembrance Ruck, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge while carrying the names of fallen service members.

Registration is now open, and I urge everyone — veterans, active-duty service members, caregivers, survivors, Gold Star Families, military families and civilians — to join us. Register now at: on.nyc.gov/ruck.

For more information about programs offered by the NYC Department of Veterans’ Services, visit nyc.gov/vets or call 212-416-5250.

NYC, there is potential for a tornado in Southeast Queens.

If you receive an emergency alert that a tornado is possible in your area, seek shelter immediately. Tornado winds are extremely strong and dangerous, and conditions can change quickly.

Sign up for emergency alerts by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692.

The safest place to be is inside a sturdy building, away from windows, in a small interior room on the lowest floor. But do not shelter in an actively flooding basement or flood-prone room.

If you cannot get indoors, stay away from trees, power lines, and scaffolding.

Check on your neighbors, especially older adults and people with disabilities, and call 911 if you are in danger.

More safety tips for thunderstorms, high winds, and tornadoes are available at NYC.gov/BeReady
