Its appearance is reminiscent of prehistoric fish, itself having not evolved an immune system capable of mounting immunity against ichthyophthirius. Adult males develop a beautiful blue body sheen with bright red fins. 030

This Pachypanchax male developed what appears to be melanoma. Iridoviruses can infect melanophores causing a marked expression of pigmentation, only males are infected 391
