Very disappointed. I understand politics, but an endorsement this early is hard to justify. Kalen is clearly the stronger candidate, and I think we all know it.

Exactly how I feel about AHIL's early endorsement. I'm supporting Kalen too. He is the better candidate.

Dogs are getting vaccinated less and rabies rates are rising, in part because 37% of Americans think vaccines will give their dogs... pawtism. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...
Worries about vaccination rates in dogs
As rabies seems to be spreading more in wildlife, veterinarians are especially worried about vaccine hesitancy spreading among pet owners, a dangerous trend that could lead to more dogs — and their owners — becoming infected. A 2023 study published in the journal Vaccine found in a nationally representative sample of Americans that nearly 40% believed canine vaccines were unsafe and 37% believed that vaccines could lead their dogs to develop cognitive issues, such as autism.

A kid in my neighborhood got hit by a driver yesterday while he was walking to school. A neighbor has raised concerns about the intersection to my alderman before, and they told her they expect drivers to roll through stop signs 🙃
My 8th-grade son was hit by a car that blew by a stop sign at Claremont and Roscoe around 7:40 this morning when he was walking to Lane. He says he is ok thankfully, but the driver was going fast enough that the side mirror fell off when it hit my son in the hand. Does anyone that lives at that intersection have any video? Car inexplicably did not stop.
Old white car (he thinks a Honda but happened fast).
Thanks, neighbors.

Neighborhood News

I live at this intersection (Roscoe and Claremont). Unfortunately,
we don't have cameras and weren't home at the time. I did call the alderman's office a couple of years ago and emphasized there was a serious issue at this intersection and someone is going to get killed. The response I got from the person in the office was that all the stop signs on Roscoe were put up (as an IDOT plan I think they said to deter speeding and prevent it from being a main cut through street (which it has become regardless, unfortunately). They actually said they expect people not to entirely stop and this wasn't the purpose of putting them all up.
To enforce would slow down traffic. A couple of weeks ago someone got hit badly on a bike and taken by ambulance at the same intersection. I will call again, and if many others do as well, it could make a difference. It's also steps away from where the kids are parking and walking to school.
Sorry this happened to your son, Andy!

He told Zach that his kid was hit by a cyclist, what does Zach have to say to him. Zach asked if his kid is still alive. He said yes. Zach said many kids have been hit and killed by motorists. What does Waguespack have to say to their parents. Waguespack got quiet and took that aggressive tone back.

Lincoln Square Road Closure and Accompanying Comments From The Local Facebook Page (April 2025)
Picture of kids and adults gathering on Lincoln Square, playing jump rope. Text overlay saying "I will never understand the appeal of playing in a street"Picture of Chicagoans of all ages lounging on Lincoln square, enjoying a beautiful spring day. The sun is out and there is chalk art covering the ground. In the foreground a man in sunglasses sits on a yellow bench. Text from a local facebook group reads "It's really unfortunate that they feel the need to create this kind of chaos for the community, our square, and the small businesses trying to thrive here, this feels like a targeted effort."
a man blows bubbles for a group of children playing in Lincoln Square, the kids are jumping and pointing at the bubbles. many adults are circled around watching. A quote from the Lincoln Square facebook page reads "FORGET ABOUT IT. Ban kids from playing in the street."A wide shot of Lincoln Square. People are congregating in the road, lined up to patronize local businesses, or sitting on the curb watching neighbors stroll by. A truncated facebook comment states "how dare you... People like you in this community absolutely disgust me."

Look at the map, China and US are very comparable in size. Both have desserts and mountains, but in China other than highways and airports, there are rail roads going through those areas too. Also west of Kunming there are many major cities with millions of people in them.

chuyiwen.bsky.social @chuyiwen.bsky.social · 09/03/2025
US government don’t have the political will to make the change. They invested disproportionately in highway than in rail road. I was trying to find a map of US high speed rail in comparison, but couldn’t find one. It seems like they are still projects and vision for the future.

I’m not saying China’s good public transit is due to “one political party”. I simply believe US government should also invest in public transit.

China does have housing crisis and many other issues, but at the same time China’s public transit is way better than US.
100
chuyiwen.bsky.social @chuyiwen.bsky.social · 09/03/2025
Oh, I see. I forgot here in US the transit has to make the money to be somewhat self sufficient. In China the fares are so cheap because it’s backed by the government. A robust transit system is a loosing business but it’s great for the people and the economy.

chuyiwen.bsky.social @chuyiwen.bsky.social · 09/03/2025
Yeah, landlords tend to not maintain properties. It’s better to just build more housing. Why free bus fares are bad though?
