This is where I'm at with that piece I was working on of Vandal from #Marathon. Still a ways to go but getting there!

An android, female presenting, with long white ish hair sectioned into bundled strands, and pointed spires adorning her head. She wears a baggy white shirt with black combat padding and tactical gear. She raises one hand, readying an attack, while holding a side arm in the other.

I haven't drawn in... like 13 years or something? But felt inspired to pick up the digital pen and start doodling some Marathon fan art of Vandal, my go-to shell! Very WIP but not awful for a day 😅 Obviously I am Not Good™️ but I AM having a lot of fun!

A sketch of a woman, futuristic looking in her attire and hair style and eye color, looking down, on a lime green background

Congrats Bungie friends! Marathon looks epic, can't wait to jump in! Also @tocom.bsky.social don't think I didn't shout "I know him!!!" to my partner while watching the countdown earlier :P

Super awesome designer Kevin Yanes talks about Marsthon. He has a beard and black shirt, and is being interviewed via microphone by another man in a grey hoodie and dark baseball cap.

This is exactly how companies should treat exiting employees. Their contributions are not negated by leaving the studio. Oftentimes they have been INTEGRAL to the foundation of the project and they deserve credit. Also: it costs NOTHING!

AI "art" only cares about foreground; the background, the context, the WHY, are of no consequence to the machine creating it. *That* is why it will fail. Humans seek the why.

It's hard to know what to say or whether it's even worth adding to the doom - what I will say is buy your trans friends' weird zine, their album, their art game - buy them a beer or a soda or a meal - give them some ko-fi money for doing absolutely nothing. We gotta protect trans kids and adults.

Goodbye to the lost children of Gaza. You were loved, you are remembered, you did not deserve it | Nesrine Malik

There is no way to rationalise the horrors inflicted on Gaza’s innocent children. Now is the time to mourn them fully, says columnist Nesrine Malik

Yeah, 100%! I think that follows a similar shift in their design focus and priorities; the small things, the nuance, reduced to make way for more "management" and building mechanics.

010

Dylan Snyder @chronofloss.bsky.social · 27/01/2025

It's funny, I often think about how technical constraints of yesteryear are that made quirky, small experiences like that possible, and they're rarely the aim in today's market.

Dylan Snyder @chronofloss.bsky.social · 27/01/2025

You become Tom Nook's coworker, rather than him and his enterprises being just another aspect of your life, as consumerism is in our day to day lives. I guess I just miss that more rural, grounded experience, instead of flying to a deserted island where you get to build a resort.

100

Dylan Snyder @chronofloss.bsky.social · 27/01/2025

It's an exercise in being "alone" in the unfamiliar and finding belonging. I think those early games were a really healthy exploration of that experience. More recent titles instead place you in a central authoritative role; "you're the mayor! You're the island rep! The campsite director!"

100

Dylan Snyder @chronofloss.bsky.social · 27/01/2025

Past Animal Crossing titles have had, for lack of a better description, a sort of "beautiful melancholy" to them. You're getting a fresh start in life arriving to a new town, lots of uncertainty and new people, but a kind of solace and peacefulness to it all.

100

Dylan Snyder @chronofloss.bsky.social · 27/01/2025

You know, as much as I have loved AC: New Horizons over the years, and how important it was when it released during Covid, there is a sort of plausibility to older games in the series that I lacks, and that I hope future titles bring back.
