honestly yeah this one is kind of nonsense lol. I think "answers" is used erroneously. maybe they mean something like "you may feel lost bc nothing makes sense but trust the process"??

Dogcatcher xkcd.com/3309/

Comic. [Three people seated at table.] PERSON 1 with ponytail: Once we break this story, he won’t be able to get elected *dogcatcher*. PERSON 2: Why do people always use “dogcatcher” as the example of a worthless office? Animal control officers are valued professionals. It just seems unnecessarily insulting. PERSON 3 with shoulder-length hair: Well, their job *is* catching strays.

it made me monumentally furious. I refused to accept it. so I went thru life being the weird kid who protested reality.

020

ok SOME details. I retaliated against something I saw as unfair, and got in trouble for it. the kid who did the unfair thing did not. the stage was set: life is unfair and you have to just accept it, or be punished.

so basically. follow. the. recipes. you use. if you're baking. you cannot mess w that shit without understanding Exactly what is going on molecularly. some may wonder "what's the point of all this, it's all going in the same bowl" and that's the devil talking. there's a point. TRUST THE PROCESS.

firstly, the order in which you combine ingredients together is important. sometimes order doesn't matter Too much. but with things like baking, order is MONUMENTAL. too often i have gotten the order mixed up and wound up with something inedible. it's bonkers how much of a difference it makes.

that's a small chunk of the basics on cooking. what you need to know, after learning what all these chemical reactions are and what they do, is what ORDER to perform them in whilst you prepare food. doing them in a certain order changes how the food turns out, or if it cooks properly at all.

Uuu, let's play a game! #deltarune

Lineless art of Aqua from DELTARUNE. Aqua is a humanized flower with blue skin, a single sharp tooth, and messy, short black hair covering her eyes, wearing an outfit consisting of a red bow, a blue dress with very long sleeves and a red collar, and red boots. She is posed as if doing a silly ballerina twirl, looking at the camera with an open smile revealing her tooth. All around Aqua are nine blue knives, revolved in the shape of a flower's petals. The background is a solid, dark blue.

again: sugar, sodium, acid, and fat. you want a good balance of all of these things to make a meal taste good. you should also ofc be thinking about nutrition for your meals if you want them to actually nourish you. harmonious amounts of protein, fiber, lipids, and carbohydrates are all essential.

then there's FATS. fat is an essential nutrient for us. i have to work on my understanding of fats a bit better, but fat is very important if you're cooking with acids. fat balances out the damaging properties of acid, and it can stabilize acidic food so it doesn't hurt your stomach.

100

acids do something similar to heat and salt. you can actually cook some things with acidic things like lemon juice alone! just remember that it doesn't kill nearly as much bacteria as heat does, so it's not always safe to cook using *only* an acid.

100

sodium is one inorganic element which we utilize in food to trigger chemical reactions. it does something similar to heat, and damages the cell membranes of organic matter and causes them to lose their water. once the water is out, your food may cook differently than before.

100

you usually caramelize things by cooking them slowly w/ low heat. figuring out which foods caramelize best is often a matter of knowing how much sugar is in them. caloric values can often indicate sweetness, so use knowledge of caloric content to help you figure out if it has sugar.

100

a good starting point for getting good at cooking is learning about caramelization. in a nutshell, caramelization is the chemical process of using heat to brown the sugars in organic matter. basically all organic matter has sugar, which is why cooking anything also makes it at least a bit sweeter.

100

to heat something is often a chemical process. heat excites molecules, evaporates moisture, disrupts cell membranes, & triggers important reactions for cooking food, like caramelization. mixing acid, fat, sugar, and sodium with various other substances also triggers chemical reactions.
