#TheSubstance (2024) Not sure why I missed this when it came out. Now that I've seen it it's definitely a film that needs to be seen on the big screen. I hope to one day. A manic visual feast with great performances from all. #FilmSky Watch it on BBC iPlayer now:

Humanists UK mourns Dame Esther Rantzen (1940–2026) Esther was a great champion of human dignity. She approached her final years with the same fearless determination that defined her career of advocacy, using her own experience to shine a light on the suffering caused by our outdated laws.

Only the 3rd time seeing Saturn through a telescope & just the 2nd time from our own back yard in Derby, UK. The crappy pic doesn't do justice to how gorgeous Saturn looked through the eyepiece. I could just make out some bands & could see Titan too. The Moon looked incredible as always.🤩 🔭 #Astro

#Hope Action packed, funny and gory monster flick with a lot more up its sleeve than I was expecting. The way it developed in its latter half was refreshing and unusual and I appreciated the complete lack of exposition. A bit long and I didn't enjoy the conclusion. #FilmSky See it now at DerbyQUAD

#TheIncomer Lovely, funny & wittily surreal film about accepting change & taking a leap. Gr8 perf's from all but esp John Hannah in a fantastically committed role! 🤯 Loved seeing Michelle Gomez again, semi-reprising her Green Wing character. A wonderful folk-comedy. #FilmSky See it now at DerbyQUAD

Tim Curry, star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Stephen King’s It, dies aged 80
A prolific performer across stage, screen and TV, the actor starred in Legend, Clue and It, but will always be associated with the flamboyantly camp rock’n’roll musical in which he made his breakthrough Tim Curry, the versatile performer of screen and stage, who made his name as the flamboyant Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, has died aged 80. Reports said Curry died at his home in Los Angeles. Ironically, Curry’s best-known roles all required a considerable physical transformation, to the extent that he was unrecognisable in all of them. Frank-N-Furter, Rocky Horror’s deranged scientist, saw him daubed in garish makeup and wearing stockings and suspenders, for the stage show (which debuted in 1973) and the film adaptation (released in 1975). In the Ridley Scott-directed fantasy Legend (1985), he was equipped with giant horns and scarlet skin as the Lord of Darkness. And in 1990, Curry was transformed with full-face clown pancake to play Pennywise in the TV miniseries It, based on the Stephen King novel. Continue reading...

#TeenageSexAndDeathAtCampMiasma The premise, & Anderson, drew me in. It sounded very odd & it was – wonderfully so. A highly imaginative love letter to the slasher pic genre. I felt awfully clever laughing in the right places. Is 2026 the year of the split diopter shot? #FilmSky C it now @ DerbyQUAD

#Lady The premise attracted me & I enjoyed Sian Clifford in Fleabag. Sian was gr8 in this – consistently hilarious. A funny, bonkers film but also quite moving at times. The POV framing was, as per, pointless. Why bother if you're not going to adhere to the laws of physics? V distracting! #FilmSky

#TheEndOfOakStreet Enjoyable & witty homage to the Spielbergian heights of the 70s & 80s. Not sure why it was set in the early 80s TBH – seemed a missed opportunity at the conclusion where popcorn logic took over. Still, I enjoyed it. All a bit bonkers & I loved all the split diopter shots. #FilmSky

#TheOdyssey Well not your typical Nolan flick. I wasn't expecting a dark, brooding, dream-like impressionistic ramble through deep, sketchy memories. Earthy & tactile with a welcome physicality. A satisfying cinematic experience with none of the cheesiness of previous Greek mythology epics. #FilmSky
