My SwiftUI previews for the iPhone Duo look drastically different than what is shown when I use the simulator. The vertical bar is completely missing and the app is acting like it's running on a regular iPhone. You can't run Image Playground in the simulator so it's been previews. FB24967055
The iPhone duo, running in a simulator on the left, which has the expected vertical bar. On the right is also an iPhone duo, which is running from a Preview, but the vertical bar is missing completely.

Some janky code I wrote to avoid the notch on the iPhone came back to bite me with the iPhone Duo!
An iPhone Duo running Please Don't Rain on the left side of the full landscape screen. The UI for choosing a location is open and it has way too much leading padding.

Feeling really glad that I spent so much time this summer giving @pleasedontrain.com a proper iPad layout. It has proved immensely useful in adjusting for iPhone Duo. Right now I'm shifting some controls that would have been in the crease in the partially folded state.
Two iPhone Duo screenshots showing Please Don't Rain. Top is fully unfolded and bottom is partially folded. In partially folded some elements that would have been in the center have moved to the left and the two sides of content have been evenly split.

While setting up my new iPhone last night my Apple Watch ended up rebooting. This morning Siri AI on the watch refused to set timers or alarms because it said the Clock app wasn't installed. 😵‍💫 Reboots didn't help but it started working later.
Siri AI on the Apple Watch reporting "| can't set a timer because the Clock app is not installed on this device."

This is a nice start to iPhone Duo support!
A screenshot of Please Don't Rain running on an iPhone Duo simulator. All UI elements look to be in a good initial state with the only change being the Menu button being off to the right side toolbar area.

I hope that the user that gave Please Don't Rain two stars for using too much blue likes the new press kit webpage that just went live.

I worked so hard this summer improving the iPad version of @pleasedontrain.com. The app originally was iOS only and you could really tell. The same vertical layout just did not work with lots of screen real estate. Now the UI elements will intelligently arrange themselves in a new layout.
A screenshot comparing the old and new iPad versions of Please Don't Rain in landscape mode. In the new version elements are grouped together intelligently instead of being a straight vertical stack.

The nightmare is over. Three years after I opened this feedback and after over ten years of waiting I will *FINALLY* have a digital watch face for my Apple Watch that I like.
Feedback I opened to Apple on June 29, 2023 that reads "I am begging you to add digital watch faces with the time in the center that allow complications." To the right is the new watch face with just that.

It's a shame that this accessibility issue I opened for SwiftUI Grids in 2022 is still an issue. It's annoying to have to create an accessibilityRepresentation for a standard UI element.

Mild panic today when I realized that the iOS 27 version of Image Playground sometimes produces images that are rectangles instead of perfect squares. Luckily @pleasedontrain.com seems to adjust to them without any changes.

I did some experimenting with Please Don't Rain today and I'm seriously considering trying to get in a redesign for iPad-sized screens before iOS 27 comes out. Please talk me out of it.
A side by side comparison. The top is the existing UI and shows the large weather image and current conditions in a large card. The bottom has a new interface with a smaller version of the image on the left along with the current conditions. The right side shows nearby days along with sun/moon events.

I'm car shopping and something I'm excited about is exorcizing analog gauges from my driving and replacing them with customizable, digital alternatives. You might think that I'm about to mention the Apple Watch but I'm not. Really. 🤐

With Xcode 27 I've been unable to try the new agent functionality because it says Codex isn't installed (Which is true. I use Claude). I finally solved this and I did it by going into Xcode 26. In a new conversation it gives you a drop down to select the agent. I was able to select Claude there.
Xcode UI for a new conversation. A red rectangle is around "Codex is not installed. Get Codex to resume the conversation." A drop down menu gives agent choices. Only 'Claude Agent' doesn't have a 'get' button.

After a few days with the Kinesis mWave I can honestly say that I'm thrilled with it. Huge + : optional wired connection, standard ctrl/opt/cmd keys, more comfy wrist pad, better key feel (subjective). Minor - : Volume keys moved (can be remapped). Delete key kind hard for me to reach.
Two ergonomic keyboards. The Kinesis mWave on top and the Logitech Ergo K860 on the bottom.

It should be studied how much they ruined the Google Nest Hub.
Photo of a blog post that says this: This is the one that really blew my mind. Previously I could say “How long to [destination]” and it would bring up a Google Maps interface showing the route and give me an estimate based on the current traffic. I made use of this a lot. When I did the same thing with Gemini there was no map shown. It was just a wall of text. I also got the impression that it was making an estimate based on historical data and not the current traffic situation. Asking for clarification confirmed that:

"That’s a great question about how things have changed. As a conversational Al, Gemini for Home doesn’t directly access or display real-time traffic maps like Google Assistant might have done on certain devices. However, I can still give you up-to-date traffic information if you need it. Would"

I did some testing and asked it how long it would take me to get to a destination. It confidently told me 36-37 minutes. I looked at both Apple Maps and Google Maps on my iPhone and they both reported around 25 minutes.

Thank you so much @hiro.report for this nice mention of What's My Set in this week's Hiro Report! www.hiro.report/05jul2026-bi...
🏋🏼‍♂️ What’s My Set for iOS - I’ve got a deep appreciation for health apps and indie-developed apps, so when Chris Wu reached out to let me know about his new set tracker app for the iPhone and Apple Watch, I was more than happy to take him up on his kind offer of a trial. It’s a simple, but thoughtful, app designed to help you keep track of how much you’re lifting, how many reps and sets you’re doing, and how much time is left in your rest before it’s time to start the next set. It also supports Tabata and EMOM-style workouts for the functional fitness crowd.

During WWDC I got some great design feedback that What's My Set wasn't using the available space well in landscape mode. Addressing that now!
Side by side shots of What's My Set running in landscape mode during an active workout. In the top version the set and exercise count sections have a lot of wasted whitespace. In the bottom version things are much more compact because the workout time and a pause button have been move to the right of them.

The map is enormous (Red Dead Redemption 2 size), varied, and packed with interesting content to keep finding. The developers keep patching it at an obscenely quick rate to get rid of things that are annoying and making things more streamlined.

I am still completely captivated by Crimson Desert. Even with all the time I’ve sunk into it, there’s still so much of the map that is unexplored. I thought the exploring would be fun, but the boss fights would be miserable. They actually are quite fair and the game gives you ways to handle them.
