Oh yes and we are only talking about the 2-3 long road trips per year. There are good municipal chargers near me that are 17 cents per kWh that I can plug into while at the gym and get 12% during workout.

Yeah at 40 cents kWh takes me $36 to do 10-90% charge and I’ll get 225 miles out of that, so $.16 per mile. 20 mpg SUV is $.20 per mile at $4 gas so it’s only 20% cheaper at the currently high gas prices. At 50 cents/kwh it’s breakeven.

I don’t doubt that there is an equipment cost - I think the fast chargers are $120k each. But why is it sometimes 22 cents per kWh and sometimes 45 cents? And how quickly do they expect to recover equipment costs?

I think the goal for EV’s is 600 mile range at 100% with 15 minute 20-80% charge time. With that, you get 360 miles before a stop, which is 5-6 hours and you’d need to stop anyway. Basically, 2x range (lots of EVs are around 300) and 2x charge speed (lots of EVs max out at 240 kWh/hr)

Depends on what car you drive and what kind of charging station you hit. In general, add 1/2 hour per 200 miles if you are doing 10-80% charging.
