There was a case of head lice in EG's classroom this week and unfortunately, despite my best efforts to avoid this exact outcome, she appears to have gone full Harriet the Spy trying to ferret out the carrier.

Just tried a Sola bagel for the first time today and I do not know what dark magic they use to stuff 30g of fiber and 15g of protein in there while making it taste so normal, but it blows Carbonaut out of the water.

The accounting is in: In Oregon there are 111 data centers. The TOTAL number of people employed at data centers is just 2,630, or 0.1% of the labor force. Those 100 data centers consumer 23% of all electricity used in Oregon. Meanwhile, electricity rates skyrocket as more centers are built.

EG just finished her first week of kindergarten and she's having such a great time so far! A January baby might require more daycare costs but on the flip side when they start school they are so ready

Antebellum politics is fascinating, the South kept getting policy concessions and whipped themselves up into a paranoid rage anyway, essentially because they couldn't stand being culturally judged for having slaves

I did not need a lot of convincing to buy a ticket to The King James Bible Play, an original play that debuted this year at the Stratford Festival. A dual timeline that involves the original translators of the KJV and a group of modern women grappling with their work? Take my money!

In anticipation of the 50th anniversary edition of More With Less, I signed up for the cook-along organized by MennoMedia. I was assigned Chinese Fish and Vegetables, which I had not made before but would totally make again, since it's easy, nutritious, and versatile.

Oh man, that was the year I finally reached a "healthy BMI" by eating a can of tuna and a carrot for lunch every day and it was so miserable that I actively avoided paying attention to my nutrition again until my literally ability to walk was on the line.

God I wish it were possible to find a queer woman somewhere who is partnered with a cis dude and arrange some sort of life trade, so that her partner could have the one to turn out to be trans, or I could be the queer one.

The excesses of the Woke 1 era mostly amount to cringe public statements, harmless vocabulary updates and loss of prestige for public figures. The backlash to Woke 1, on the other hand, is imprisoning dissidents, dismantling public education and eroding democracy. That's what needs reckoning

This boils it down to its essence, right here. Anyone who says that the Charmin bears taking a knee for racial justice or some shit in 2020 was an outrage that demands societal restitution but says nothing about what the backlash has wrought is an unserious person to be safely ignored.

I sang Landslide as a bedtime song to EG exactly once, months and months ago. Tonight I was showing her a few old pictures and caught myself singing "time makes you bolder/even children get older" and she goes "yes Mama, sing me that song, the one about the snow covered hills!"
Alien: *crying*
