How does CBC carry a whole panel on the Sunday Magazine about fossil fuel prices and growth with someone from the McDonald Laurier Institute without at least mentioning that they receive major backing from fossil fuel interests?
The Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) is an official partner organization and affiliate of the U.S.-based, conservative and libertarian Atlas
Network. ®
About the Connection
• Affiliation: MLI joined the global network of free-market think tanks after its founding in Ottawa in 2010. ®
• Funding and Support: MLI receives support and membership connection through the Atlas Network, which receives backing from major fossil fuel and corporate interests. @
• Shared Goals: Both groups promote market-oriented public policies, often opposing heavy government regulation on environmental and energy issues. V Desmog +1

He’s just cribbing sound bites from his last campaign at this point, only last time it was about aggressively funding climate
"If I have a mandate from the people of Ottawa to move forward on these
priorities, it will be clear to the police service and the police board that that's what the people of Ottawa want," he said."And so it will be clear to the senior staff at city hall that there's an expectation that we have to act on all of this, and that we have to start making decisions differently."

Sutcliffe delivered on literally none of this during his first term as mayor, nobody should trust anything he campaigns on.
Asked how he would operationalize that, "It starts at the top ... so that's why this is an ambitious plan," Sutcliffe said. "City staff will know if I'm elected that I was elected on an aggressive,
ambitious plan to address climate change. And they will know that these are the priorities of the people of Ottawa because they voted for me and they voted for this platform.
"And so it will be clear to the senior staff at city hall that there's an expectation that we have to act on all of this, and that we have to start making decisions differently."

Confirmed the flooding at Centrepointe library and Carlingwood impacted the children’s collections. Only seems fair we move the children’s collections to higher ground and put the boomers collections in the basement for the next flood.
The Nepean Centrepointe
and Carlingwood branches remain closed until further notice due to water infiltration caused by the storm.
Our teams continue to assess the damage and develop restoration plans. We can confirm that both branches sustained damage to flooring, furnishings, fixtures, equipment, and other building materials and systems. Initial assessments indicate that the damage was limited to the basement at Nepean Centrepointe dto
the first floor of the Carlingwood branches. In both branches, the impacted areas are where the children's collections are located

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about backup/supplemental heat is thinking they need a wholly secondary heating system. When we do full cold climate installs in Ottawa, the backup heat is literally this heat kit that is the size of a couple pizza boxes installed inside the air handler

Schools that are between two streets can already do this (e.g Elmdale), but schools that are only accessible from one street (e.g. W.E. Gowling) could be altered to be one-way for bus drop off and a separated mobility lane for students to be able to bike to/from school safely.

Moto-normativity is having to opt out of needing a school bus vs. opting in to need a bus. Those opting out (and saving the board money on buses) have to spend their time filling out a form and looking up numbers while everyone that needs a school bus seat doesn't have to do anything.
Ottawa Student Transportation (OSTA) is launching its annual opt-out process to enhance bus routing and transportation planning for the 2026-2027 school year.

If your child(ren) will not require school bus transportation next school year, please complete the electronic opt-out form to inform OSTA that a seat is not needed. This will help optimize services and minimize disruptions. Requests for reinstated service can be made anytime through OSTA’s Transportation Issues Form, and is subject to availability and eligibility.

The opt-out form is now available on OSTA’s website. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2026.

We found that with one 20” bike and one 24” bike it was a bit of a squeeze and we spent more time getting the bikes tied in; so opened for the trailer. Also tried bolting on an actual bike trailer to speed up the long bikes on, but the drag is a bit much. .

He hopes to have the restaurant open by the spring or summer of 2026 and for it to coincide with the redevelopment of the the ByWard Market, which will eventually make William Street a pedestrian-only zone.
"We're looking forward to being a contribution to the market, preserving the old and bringing in something new," he said.
