I just finished up a small field recording bag! 🎤 I wanted something I could take with me on a hike/to a park that wasn't too heavy that I could capture some quick sounds on. Super stoked with how it came out!
A bag with a carabiner with a collapsible water bottle, fold up blanket and fold up shopping bag, with a lightstand held underneath by straps. The internals of the bag in the first picture. Tripods, microphones, recorders and accessories are littered onto a table.

Thanks for reading these past two absolutely massive threads to those who did! On to the next adventure!

Now, if you do this the sane way, where you just want to catch all of the Pokemon possible and not necessarily from the original game/generation, I would definitely suggest that! Here's everything youd need for that.

Absolutely not. The amount of games needed and having to buy from eBay becuase these games no longer exist at retailers, the systems needed, the amount of time that I could have spent doing literally anything else is by no means an unsubstantial amount. Here's everything I needed.

And gamers, I did it. Every Pokedex, completed.

Now, you might be thinking this is where it ends. However, when I went to go appreciate my progress in the phone-app-version of Pokemon Home, I noticed a fun other tab that had something else. Game-specific Pokedexes.

For having a Living Dex in Home, you even get a special-colored Magearna as a bonus (:

After getting the diplomas in the Gen 9 game, it was time to transfer all the Pokemon back into Pokemon Home to finish this all up. And so I present to you, a completed "Living-Origin Dex", where I have a Pokemon for each entry, and they all come from the games they were introduced in.

The issue? If you can believe it, two Pokemon in Gen 9 were locked behind a timed event that ended in May of 2024.

Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025
So when I say that Gens 6/7 went by so fast I hardly remember them, just know that COMBINED the amount of Pokemon I needed to catch from them was only four more than Gen 5 at 160. These games were also the first 3DS-Era games and with that came a TON of optimization, which meant easier catching!

Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025
So while I transferred all of the Pokemon over to Gen 4 the "intended" way (which I think we can all agree is lame - 22 real world days dude? come on), transferring all of the from Gen 4 to Gen 5 took MINUTES. So I completed that Pokedex as well!

This thing is a piece of hardware made for reading GBA cartridge data. With this I could safely backup my Gen 3 Pokemon games, but also put that save data into a software called PKHeX. (picture not mine, I'm too cozy on my couch to go to my desktop)

Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025
I then found a MUCH simpler way to transfer Pokemon over which could have saved me a lot of time (and money) which is a piece of computer software and this fun little guy here.

Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025
So with that issue out of the way, I went through and recaught all the Pokemon in Gens 3 and 4, including going through the process of transferring over all of the Gens 1 and 2 Pokemon to complete those Pokedexes for the first time.

The same issue was present with the DS-Era games, with the solution being relatively the same! Just needed a different cartridge to fit a different slot. Some folks might see this as cheating, which it technically is.

Having this cart also allowed me to "inject" the event items into my game as all all of the distributions were on specially made games for these kinds of things. (Picture is not mine, these things go for THOUSANDS of dollars, no joke)

Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025
This was of course a bummer, but recently a new piece of software was developed to allow the previously-impossible task of transferring Pokemon from a Gen2 game to a Gen3 game. Doing this required a special flash cart made for GBA, so I went ahead a picked that up.

I decided that I didn't like solution. After sleeping on it for a week, I came up with a new solution: Just do it the hard way. So I bought the DSi. (There was a pretty good deal on eBay)

I'll make another post when I'm done with this near Sisyphean task I've put myself on, hopefully there will be fewer problems moving forward from here!

I guess I'm also writing this thread as a way to show myself how far I've come in this completely inconsequential task, but it's also pretty cool going through all the boxes I've filled so far in Pokémon Home!

After finishing up Gen5, I am now at 676/1,025 collected, which includes some Pokémon I already had in Pokémon Home from later generations when I had first played them. More than halfway there!

I know Jirachi isn't available through gameplay in the originals, so I picked up a copy of the bonus disk for Pokémon Colosseum that just gives you one. This doesn't technically break Rule #2 as Colosseum is a Gen3 game! Here's a very tired picture of me presenting this information to my wife.
Tired man rapidly approaching his thirties tries convincing his wife that the money he spent on an extra disk that came with a video game that itself includes no video game was actually a good purchase.

This is cool because this Celebi event was actually region-locked to Japan players only, for a short time in 2001, and only through a method that required a cable that connected from your Game Boy to your cellphone. This is fortunate because I neither lived in Japan or had a cellphone in 2001.
Cords connecting from a Game Boy to an old cell phone, the only method by which players could get a Celebi, only available in Japan in 2001.

Solution - A hacked 3DS, a "Monster Brain" cartridge and a separate cartridge to transfer save data, aptly named "GB USB". Luckily, I had a 3DS already and "hacking" it was just throwing some files onto its SD card.

Rule #3 (Only for me) - I wanted to complete the Pokédex as a "Living Dex". For those unfamiliar, this means an individual Pokémon for each entry in the Pokédex. So instead of having the entries for Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard while only having Charizard, I would need each Pokémon separately.
An example of stored Pokemon in a living dex.

She ended up having a TON of fun playing through the first generation, so I picked up the trio of games from the second generation, Gold/Silver/Crystal, from the same game store. After some time and trading Pokémon from the first gen over, I completed the second generation's Pokédex as well!

For my birthday, my wife got me an Analogue Pocket so I could relive playing through games from my childhood, mainly the GB/GBC/GBA Pokémon games. With all my free time this winter break, I decided to do something that I've wanted to do since I was a kid - complete the Pokédex. (VERY wordy thread)
