Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 07/11/2025I just finished up a small field recording bag! 🎤 I wanted something I could take with me on a hike/to a park that wasn't too heavy that I could capture some quick sounds on. Super stoked with how it came out! 170

Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Dude, keeping all of my Pokémon games from when I originally had them would have been worth their weight in gold. The price of Platinum had me thinking about all of this for a bit haha 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Thanks for reading these past two absolutely massive threads to those who did! On to the next adventure! 030
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025I know the Pokemon Company isn't on this site yet, but just wanted to give a solid "Thank You" for all the memories and experiences. I know they're little games mainly meant for a child-aged audience, but man, they're good. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025I mainly wanted to do this for me, to prove that I could stay focused and determined on a large task for a while. But I also wanted it as something to pass down to a future child of mine someday if they also get into Pokemon like I did. I'm still a bit from that time, but I think it would be neat! 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025It was the first game that my wife and I played together when we started dating nearly 12.5 years ago. With a new Pokemon game comes another chance at connecting with old friends and meeting new ones. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025As someone born in 1995, nearly my whole life has been Pokemon. It was the first cartoon I can remember watching. I used to wake up my dad as a two-year old by jumping on his bed and calling him a Snorlax. The first game I beat (Pokemon Yellow). 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025So now it's over. Not really, because new games and more Pokemon will always come, but as far as for me for now, everything I can get has been got. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Now, if you do this the sane way, where you just want to catch all of the Pokemon possible and not necessarily from the original game/generation, I would definitely suggest that! Here's everything youd need for that. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Absolutely not. The amount of games needed and having to buy from eBay becuase these games no longer exist at retailers, the systems needed, the amount of time that I could have spent doing literally anything else is by no means an unsubstantial amount. Here's everything I needed. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025All in all, this took around four months of on/off playing to complete the Living-Origin Dex and around two weeks-ish of ProGamerHyperFocusMode to complete the other Home Dexes. Now, would I recommend doing this the way I did? 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025And the one I finished today: Sword/Shield + DLCs - Shiny Keldeo 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025They even give you cool Pokemon for doing this too! Sword/Shield + DLCs - Shiny Meloetta Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee - Shiny Meltan (why isn't it Mew??) Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl - Shiny Manaphy Pokemon Legends: Arceus - Shiny Enamorous 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025I actually completed my Living-Origin Dex two weeks ago, the original 1,025 I set out to catch. From then until today, I have spent nearly every waking moment (aside from working on a super cool video game that I am super stoked about and hanging out with my wife and animals) playing Pokemon. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025The total number of Pokemon I needed to catch: Sword/Shield - 474 Scarlet/Violet - 548 Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee - 150 Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl - 152 Pokemon Legends: Arceus - 242 For a whopping grand total of 1,566 I needed to catch. 541 MORE THAN EVERYTHING I CAUGHT TO THIS POINT. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025The Pokedexes I needed to complete were for: Sword/Shield (Gen 8) Scarlet/Violet (Gen 9) Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee (Gen 1 Remakes) Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl (Gen 4 Remakes) Pokemon Legends: Arceus 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Unfortunately, the newer Pokemon games aren't merciful with the amount of Pokemon they have in them. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025In order to complete these other Pokedexes, I would need to compile a Living Dex of each Pokemon available in those games and import them into Pokemon Home. Thankfully I wouldnt need to recatch the Pokemon I had already caught respective to their generations and they had already counted. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025The reason is because there would be a constant reminder that lived on my phone that I wasn't finished. That anytime I showed off my Living-Origin Dex to my wife in a never-ending attempt to impress her, there would be several other columns of failure. And I couldn't have that. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025I hear you ask, "Dude, if you already caught them all why go through the hassle of doing it multiple times?" 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025So I would need to go back through the games I had already played, and complete their individual Pokedexes by catching every. single. Pokemon. in. that. game. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Game-specific dexes required that I catch the Pokemon from that game, even if they were Pokemon I had already obtained them from older games and transferred them in. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Now, you might be thinking this is where it ends. However, when I went to go appreciate my progress in the phone-app-version of Pokemon Home, I noticed a fun other tab that had something else. Game-specific Pokedexes. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025For having a Living Dex in Home, you even get a special-colored Magearna as a bonus (: 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025After getting the diplomas in the Gen 9 game, it was time to transfer all the Pokemon back into Pokemon Home to finish this all up. And so I present to you, a completed "Living-Origin Dex", where I have a Pokemon for each entry, and they all come from the games they were introduced in. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025So with that, and moving older Pokemon into newer Pokemon games, I had completed the dexes for Gen 8 + DLCs and Gen 9 + DLCs! 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025I had them in Pokemon Home already, so they already counted toward the Pokedex completion. So for all inents and purposes, I'm going to count them as finished! 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025Unfortunately, I had already traded for them. However, according to the arbitrary rule set I had set for myself, I would have to be the one to catch them. So I'll be catching them when the event returns on the 20th, and retiring the current ones I have. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025As if my prayers had been answered by some weird deity that listens only to prayers about Pokemon availability issues and not real world problems, the Pokemon Company announced yesterday that the event would returning later this month! 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025- Wait and pray. When Gen8 reached the end of its time, they released all of the time-locked Pokemon to be encountered in raids. (Yes, there's Pokemon raids now.) In this solution I would just wait for the event to maybe come back before the next game released. Maybe, I'm impatient. 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025- Trade for them. I didn't like this solution, but it would give me the Pokedex entries I needed. Thankfully at this point, I had easy access to pretty much anything someone would ask for, so it wouldn't be too rough. A solid maybe. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025- Hack my Nintendo Switch and, using the PKHeX software, "generate" the Pokemon I needed. I didn't want to do this as hacking a switch is scary and intensive and could not only get me hardware banned, but software banned, meaning that I could potentially lose all of the Pokemon I had. So, no. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025There were a few solutions to this problem. I could: 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025The issue? If you can believe it, two Pokemon in Gen 9 were locked behind a timed event that ended in May of 2024. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025After spending another weekend at it, I ran through the story of the Gen 8 and 9 Pokemon games and had free reign to catch all of the Pokemon I had left! Only for another issue to arise. Of course. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025As I had already played through Gen 8/9 before, I already had some of the Pokemon I needed. However, pokemon that had evolutions that required trading had me play through them again on another Switch system. 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025At this point, I had locked in 807 Pokemon The finish line is definitely in-sight, and we're now starting to catch up to the games that I had most recently played Progress from here speeds up exponentially! 100
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025(Just noticing that I said they went by fast when my Gen 7 game says I have 41.5 hours on it. Time has obviously passed me by and it must be with all of these real-world events happening around me that I might have dissociated a little bit maybe.) 110
Chris Walasek @chrissoundsrad.com · 18/02/2025So when I say that Gens 6/7 went by so fast I hardly remember them, just know that COMBINED the amount of Pokemon I needed to catch from them was only four more than Gen 5 at 160. These games were also the first 3DS-Era games and with that came a TON of optimization, which meant easier catching! 100
