Chavez, Peacock and Turley all closed out the 8th inning of losing efforts on the road, and a pitcher from the home team threw the last pitch of the 9th. In ‘45 Dizzy Trout gave up the game winning hit in the 12th. Borowy threw the first pitch as the home starter in Game 7.

Thanks for your replies. Most of that doesn’t speak well of the tenure process. I’m sure there are reasons for it. But if a university can’t say, “this person doesn’t quite fit, but damn they’re worth keeping,” then it ought to look at what it’s doing.

At this point I think it's gamesmanship. Calling in hopes that you won't answer, so then they can say they called you, take it off their to-do list / report to their boss that they reached out to you and haven't heard back yet, and go about their day. (Assuming this is work-related in some way.)

I love the way, in every culture I have encountered in a museum, all over the world, the earliest art is some image or design on a useful object. We make bowls or baskets or jugs to live. And as soon as we do, we look for ways to make them meaningful beyond their practical purpose.
