I do think an issue with being constantly inundated with gorgeous published ttrpg adventures is that real prep for a real home game is ideally a stack of weird drawings and scrawl that should never aspire to publication. I tend to shut down when I think about prep as something to be completed.

One big effect that being part of online ttrpg communities has had on me is running much fewer games, because I started worrying if I was doing a good enough job, something I never worried about when it was just me and some friends and some books, and it became a little stressful

What I bristled at was the equation of Hasbro D&D to D&D as a whole. This game (and versions of it) have been around since at least the late 60s, growing out of small home groups primarily in the Twin Cities. It was passed around by word of mouth where it ended up in the lap of a young Dave Arneson.

Monopoly came from The Landlord's Game, which became a folk game people played by drawing their own boards. Werewolf and Mafia are folk games that are now mass produced. D&D as it is now spun out of Braunstein and Blackmoor, which were memetic games

there's a sense in which digital objects are real, and we're seeing them imperfectly. this is important to me and it's part of why i don't like using things like VHS filters or faking glitchiness. because they're not part of the process. there are already real glitches. there's already a viewglass.
