An entire political commentary class who thinks the country is eternally in a state of conservativeness just like themselves and that any deviation from that is just a moment of temporary embarrassment rather than true belief

Separate from the events was the coverage of the events as social phenomena. For example, the year is 2026, and Bret Stephens is still talking about Dorian Abbot being disinvited from a talk in 2021. The Times covered this as national news, giving less attention to more substantive attacks on speech

I loathe posting these, but this is an update: Betty’s pipes are fixed, but the house remains in shambles and still needs major renovations. If you can spare a few dollars, that would be so appreciated. If not, God bless you, but a repost is free. ❤️ gofund.me/01e55a690

Whether it's Bill Clinton using tax-payer money to pay for the postage on letters back to people who wrote to his cat or Donald Trump steering hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts to his son's companies, both presidents engaged in corruption on an unprecedented scale.

Once you write these pieces, & find this evidence, they are the story. The only story. And yet, for a decade now, the NYT response to discovering unprecedented crimes, constitutional violations, & corruption, has been to just go back to covering Trump & the GOP as "normal politics." I don't get it.

one area where i will actually concede messaging is hard for the dems (if they try) is the gop's actions are so inconceivably evil they sound totally made up. "we're trying to make it easier to pollute poor neighborhoods. we're pushing so kids get exposed to more lead."

when people ask me "what do you want democrats to do" and when i say "just fucking say something," right now el-sayed is the model of the pugilistic wwe style i want: charismatic progressives who talk shit about how the other guy failed and progressive solutions are the logical, popular answer.

so post primary what it appears to me is el-sayed is a good candidate who uses every media avail to talk himself up while talking shit about his opponent, precisely the kind of thing the leftist and centrist wings of the party should want.

Karen Bass’s LAPD is openly defying a judge’s order to hand over moonlighting records, and it's obvious why. They are desperately hiding a shadow workforce where cops moonlight for ICE contractors, creating blatant conflicts of interest. It's time to enforce the subpoena and demand accountability.

youre electable when the voters elect you. so lets have a debate. lets have a knock out drag-down fight and lets find out who is most electable instead of arbitrarily taking options off the table because of maybe possibly how some midwestern swing voter is gonna react.

COVID helped fuel the rise of the far right globally. The uncertainty, grief, anger, and fear made for fertile ground for conspiracist thinking and right-wing indoctrination. Is it one of many drivers? Yes. But it’s an important factor nonetheless—and one that is too often overlooked and unexamined
