Oh, and it's heavy! 470lbs without any of its accessories attached. I hope I can get the original control unit working. If not, I'll be replacing the ~1990 controller with some home-built nonsense.

At 10:00 on the spindle is a rotary encoder which keeps track of the angular position of the spindle. The most interesting detail here is that the plate, linkage (all but one link) and outer frame is all a single contiguous piece, having been flame cut from a single steel plate. Pretty nifty.

I bought an old wheel/tire balancer. The business end features a thick steel plate with the spindle and drive motor suspended in a frame by complicated linkages. At the end of the two long links are force transducers which measure imbalance while the spindle is rotating.

Yep, I hate it. Having said that, I think I could get behind ABS-for-check-swings. Probably need to start by defining the rule more clearly than "struck at by the batter".

NTSB says the FO from the MIA incident auto-defenestrated via a cockpit window. Video of the other guy falling from the door (no slide?) makes the window seem like an odd choice. Long way down. Turns out there are ropes and descenders for this purpose. Cool video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y5l...

Corporate infosec training is filled with breathless assertions like "a single click on an emailed link can install malware" etc. I don't know if that's true or not, but one of these is: - The wrong people are being subjected to mandatory training - The material undermines itself by crying wolf

The level of shenanigans required to get Vaultwarden talking TLS led me to conclude that it is Not Serious Software led by Not Serious People. It's been a while since I looked at it... I think it required slapping a TLS-enabled proxy out front? Was I too quick to dismiss it?

Using Big Cryptography Math to validate the origin AS and nothing else seems crazy to me.
A closed vehicle gate on a narrow path or driveway.

Many tire tracks on the grass adjacent to the gate indicates that drivers just go around it.

Watching game 1 of the Futures League championship series. The New Britain Bees are absolutely wrecking the league leading Vermont Lake Monsters in Burlington. Currently 9-0 with bases loaded and no outs in top 6th. Go Bees!

Are WiFi randomized MACs used *when associated* with an AP? I thought those were just used for probes. I guess I could imagine seeing a familiar MAC if CarPlay is in use.

Fermilab had something similar when I worked there, but it was full scale train stuff used to position boxcar sized electromagnets. I remember wondering how that stuff had gotten to where the particle beam was, several stories below ground.

I tried to persuade the Nashua on-field host to run a kids "bucket toss cleanup" game (vs. musical chairs or whatever) during a mid-inning break next time the Bees were in town. Only a few would have gotten the joke, but man, it would have landed. To my enormous disappointment, it never happened.

My seat was near 3B, beside the Nashua dugout. Those kids were so amused!. Well, right up to the assault, anyway. A few weeks later, the Bees dropped an IG video asking players: Which teammate is most likely to get arrested? B.O. (screenshot) won by a landslide, but nobody mentioned the incident.

Crazy moment from the 7/11/25 Nashua @ New Britain FCBL game. It starts at 2:01:30 with Dave York's walk. fcblnetwork.com?B=2488677 Final tally: - 1 manager ejected - 50 baseballs - 1 ball boy ejected - 2 fans hit by thrown ball - 1 ten game suspension It's the only ball boy ejection I've seen.
Screenshot from live broadcast of baseball game. Following his ejection, New Britain Bees manager Matt Gedman throws a 5 gallon bucket full of baseballs toward home plate.Screenshot from live broadcast of baseball game. Nashua Silver Knights batter Keldrin Rodriguez waits just outside the batter's box. The dirt circle is littered with stray baseballs. Also, a bucket.A New Britain pitcher throwing a baseball toward the Nashua dugout. They've been heckling him as he picks up the 50-ish baseballs littering the field. The ball sails well over its target, hits an older couple sitting in the accessible seats at the top of section 115.

First round NBA draft pick Ebuka Okorie went to school with my daughter for a few years. Their pre-K class had a "letter of the week" which included a show-and-tell segment on Mondays. Kids brought things starting with A on the first Monday. Next week, things starting with B, etc.

I think I might be the other half of the views of that video. It's frustrating that each part is slightly different between the generations. I'm wondering if I can't get away with using only NA6 parts: - new NA6 condenser/drier - new NA6 expansion valve - flush everything else - Fill with R134A

Chris Marget @chrismarget.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
I'm contemplating an R12 -> R134A conversion for an NA6 with nonfunctional A/C. I assume you're doing the same? Which parts are you re-using vs. replacing?

There's a disturbing lack of WPBL team names too (WTF?) But we'll have Silver Knights baseball in just 6 days! (I don't recommend going to the opener on the 27th: It's a school field trip day, so the place will be packed with kids.) Next Friday in Lowell and Saturday in Nashua will be fun though.

My domain has wildcard email delivery, so I can make up addresses on the fly. I always use "theirdomain@mydomain" when filling forms. This approach is super useful for figuring out how/why something got my email address. e.g. How did BabiesRUs get ahold of "hospitalmaternityward@mydomain"? Hmm???

I made a tool that turns PCB designs into 3D-printable molds. you sandwich copper tape between the parts, sand the ridges, and you have a real working PCB. no etching, no chemicals. I am losing my mind castpixel.itch.io/pcb-forge
I printed it and stuck self-adhesive copper tape to it. There's copper tape with conductive adhesive so you can add multiple overlapping pieces and it counts as one conductive surface.

Then I used the second part of the mold to shape the copper, so that it sticks inside the recessed traces.

Then I used sandpaper to file away at the raised ridges. The copper traces are now electrically independent of each other. Done!

But if I want, I can remove the extra copper tape. The companion mold at the bottom. This second 3D-printed part pushes the copper tape down into the recessed trace channels so it conforms to the shape. The two parts sandwich together with alignment spikes to keep everything registered.screenshot of QZW Labs' raised pcb idea! here is their youtube video
