Always fascinated that the previous month’s estimates on jobs leads the news but never the revisions, especially the revisions down, which led the news just a month and two months ago. Maybe, and hear me out, we close the loop and previous guesses before we throw more guesses out into the world.

In the JavaScript used to power the website, there are references to this platform... vercel.com/ai There are also references to AWS Bedrock in the code. But from what I can see, the exact model and model provider are encrypted and not exposed through the responses that come from /api/chat

If you type "play minecraft" or "play the block game" into the America.gov chatbot you get a long "minecraft-esque" easter egg narrative similar to — I think — the enderdragon story

Just saw a commercial during the national NFL game showing the president walking with his voice in the background outlining past promises and it says “paid for by the U.S. Government” and I have questions.

What I love about public records requests here in New Mexico is this undefined "excessively broad and burdensome" clause that agencies get to lean on for ... everything. Like every request. Nothing like being reminded every two weeks of the burden you are on those working on your behalf.
Email from New Mexico Public Education Department regarding a public records request.

At a store over the weekend, my son and I approached an escalator that wasn't working, and I just said out loud, "Escalator temporarily stairs," and from out of nowhere I heard someone say "Sorry for the convenience" and my hope for the future grew 10 fold.

say what you will about the myriad valid concerns with current LLMs but I personally will never get over the fact that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted to his literal death for downloading JSTOR and then a decade later, they downloaded & ingested the entire world and our IP laws just went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The AI discourse I'd like to be having, what I think is missing (especially among more "pro"-AI spaces), is things like the ethics of different models and different types of models and the provenance of their training data. The ethics of models that run on local hardware vs data centers. Etc...

Using AI helps people get higher grades and get their work done faster, but they learn less & suffer on actual exams I saw this in my own large Intro Psych class: -the exam average is 85% -after AI, it shot up to 95% -after I made the final in person it went to 68% www.economist.com/graphic-deta...
