8,000-year-old obsidian mirrors discovered at the Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük in Turkey. (Meticulously polished volcanic obsidian glass) They have a convex surface and remarkably good optical quality. Crafted around 6400 BCE, they are some of the oldest manufactured mirrors known.

An amateur archeologist has discovered Germany’s largest-ever hoard of ancient Roman silver coins. Oliver Reidl was searching a field in Wesseling. Researchers later recovered 934 silver denarii dating to the reign of Emperor Hadrian, nearly 2,000 years ago, between 39 B.C. and A.D. 459.
