I think there’s a misunderstanding of the term “EU Accession negotiations”. Negotiation, in this sense, is primarily over how and by when an applicant will implement or align with each area of EU law (Acquis Communautaire), and then whether they‘ve done that. It’s not over *whether* they will.

UK never seemed to understand it in the first place, or did and ignored it to concentrate on the transactional benefits. Either way, education of the population re all aspects of EEC/EU non existent compared to other member states.

There was also Crisis Command, where three captains of industry had to deal with a developing situation, and even with advice from experts messed up mightily. E.g. left it too late to down an airliner in a 9/11 type situation so that it made a mess of central London.

An effectively blind driver killed a girl on a pedestrian crossing a year or two ago where I live. At the time I was beginning to question my own sight bc of cataracts. Optician said I could legally drive, horrifying to think how bad the driver’s sight must have been & he didn’t even have specs.

Lucy Bronze played through the Euro 2025 tournament with a ‘broken bone’ in her leg, ie a hairline fracture. Painful but doable, see Emma Monk’s thread quoted earlier.

When trump backs down and cancels his lawsuit, the BBC should turn and sue him for harassment & possible extortion using his original lawsuit as an example of him filing fake lawsuits and STILL demand trump’s financial records as evidence that his lawsuit was a lie to harass and extort a settlement.

The Mansion Tax as proposed is a trivial amount on top of the Council Tax, which itself always looks proportionally cheaper vs house values the higher the band, especially when properties have been improved but not rebanded.

Has America Crossed the Asshole Threshold?
Civilizations can carry a surprising number of parasites and live. But there’s a line — Rome crossed it, the Gilded Age toed it, and for the first time in history, we can measure it.

BBC South East got v excited yesterday about an asylum seeker who'd got aboard a ferry, presumably in back of a truck. Obvs a rare thing these days but they didn't put it in the context of overall reduction in irregular crossings. And they (esp Simon Jones) keep referring to 'illegal' crossings.

I remember knowing where to stand for the smoking carriages on the Tube, at peak times there was a better chance of a seat even if I didn't want a gasper. Also BR which banned smoking in the 90s, commuting to Reading from PAD meant a smoking carriage to guarantee a seat.
