One of the coolest academic things I've ever seen. Aarhus University has a Recreational Fear Lab dedicated to the study of "frightening leisure activities". Neuroscience, cultural analysis, emotional affect, and more. Big thanks to my student Joel who put me onto this! cc.au.dk/en/recreatio...

Watch Four Corners tonight. At UOW we've lost invaluable people and a wealth of knowledge, and my alma mater UTS continues to suffer through their own gauntlet of corporate mishandling, leaving potentially permanent damage to the sector. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

Consultancies have been accused of infiltrating universities and wasting scarce public funds on questionable advice about cutting courses and jobs.

Gentle reminder that in the late '50s, the U.S. government did not censor comics. Comics companies censored themselves. Not sure why that crossed my mind today but there it is...

Those who speak, write, create and perform with truth and good faith should be immune from political censorship and despotic overreach. Support your creators, your artists, your performers and your truth tellers. Especially when those in power wish for their silence. #JimmyKimmel

This is some horrific Black Mirror BS. Going through this upheaval and suspending over 100 courses is traumatising enough without being told to bake a dessert or do the laundry. Thinking of my friends and colleagues at UTS who are going through this nightmare. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08...

We are long past "gone too far". What is happening in Gaza is a humanitarian crisis fomented in part by Western political antipathy. Recognition is a positive step, but more must be done so those responsible for starving children are held to account. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08...

The new #Superman rules. Big-hearted, brightly-coloured and blatantly fun. As a film in its own right and as James Gunn and Peter Safran's mission statement for the new DCU, it excels amazingly. Flowers for Corenswet and Brosnahan as outstanding Supes and Lois, and Krypto who is the *goodest* boy.

With #Thunderbolts*, I'm back on the Marvel train. Moving, funny, action-y and very well put-together. It puts a decent spin on team-based superheroics, taking some of the "heroes fight heroes" tension of the Avengers to its logical extreme.
