I didn't know about this!

Her own engineers looked at this road and did the math on it and she was just like...nope some a funeral home complained. And there are no residences! Only a cematary. She is saying dead people complained of congestion!

Finding out that he sends his kid to DC public school forgave a lot sins for me. That's pretty basic test I have for urbanism and he passed it.

Yup. I actually typed it was refreshing but couldn't make it fit and deleted it. It'd prefer to just battle nimbys who are straight up about what they believe than the liars we have out here. Just today someone on Nextdoor said HPOZs dont need affordable housing because it's not really affordable.

Bass has moved so far to the right in this campaign. Nextdoor is basically full Bass support 24/7. It will be very good for LA if she loses, very good. And very, very bad if she wins. We are really at the biggest turning point in my LA lifetime.

I tangled with these NY suburban Nimbys back in the old housing twitter days. They are on another level. California Nimbys are very practiced at hiding their anti housing behind secondary arguments like vacancies or whatever. These NY'ers are just straight up racist.

80% of my district of like 225k people voted for HLA, the bike lane prop. So there's a lot of LA voters that love the possibility of a more bikeable LA. yesonhla.com/vote-map

My bike commute to DTLA today was absolutely gorgeous... oh and my commute to take my kids to school was the same.

In my neighborhood Bass is having a "closed door" zoom with anti bike lane advocates. She is free basing nimbyism all day long. She doesn't listen to anyone outside of her anti housing anti bike lane bubble. So to her this is like a huge gotcha because she's only talking to her group.

Villaraigosa was a million times more bike friendly than Bass. He got hit on his bike and then really started pushing bike lanes.

A reminder: If you want to increase your likelihood of surviving your commute home *in your car* you should drive on as many streets as possible that have protected bike lanes.

We are paying millions because we won’t do things like road diets to fix dangerous roads.

Isnt liability already attached? LA pays out a ton of money on unsafe streets. They are very strong to make the argument they have to remove a crosswalk for liability but not that they have to put them in.
110
Chris @chrisbybikes.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
I wish that fear of liability went both ways. LA removes DIY corsswalks but also removed a road diet where a mother was then killed riding with her kids. Now there's a lawsuit. Where was the fear of liability then? Where is all the fear of liability when engineers identify high injury corridors?

Karen Bass is spending the last few weeks of election, pandering to Nimbys. I wasn't even aware that Silver Lake Together was still around. They are a group who used to be in power of the Silver Lake neighborhood council and tried to kill the Rowena road diet, but since have faded. Bass found em!

I don’t think it was, I think and you probably agree it was to say “hey maybe the pedestrian had some blame, we’re not sure”. Cops almost always side with drivers.
010
Chris @chrisbybikes.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Yup. If you look up 69th and central there’s a legal intersection to cross “an unmarked” cross walk. But he was killed in a hit and run so I’m sure it’s hard to guess where he was crossing. It’s entirely unnecessary to bring it up except to give a hit and run driver an out for murder.

One kid is getting better and the other has a fever. I skipped a conference this morning so my wife who’s been nursing number 2 can sleep in. It feels like at least 1 of our 3 kids has been sick everyday since school started. It’s exhausting. It you’re not working, you’re nursing.

Mayor Bass's statements on the pedestrian death has huge mayor in hot dog costume vibes. You want to find who is accountable? Maybe start with the mayor who has blocked safe street projects throughout the city.

These stories on a pedestrian killed in South LA continually say it was "outside a marked crosswalk". But look at the road. The whole thing is outside a marked crosswalk. Where are the crosswalks? This is a highway, not a road.

Imagine if a daycare center only installed electrical outlet covers one at a time after a toddler shocked himself, rather than just identifying all the outlets and covering them at once. That's basically the modern US city government approach to fixing streets.

Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.

Wha??? 71% of LA bans apartments. How is legalizing apartments going to make us poorer?

Chris @chrisbybikes.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
If we built a lot more market rate housing, it would make the old housing much, much cheaper.

Chris @chrisbybikes.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
And why are California market rate housing prices so high? Could it be because we don’t build enough market rate housing?

Chris @chrisbybikes.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
The min wage for fast food workers in California is $20/hour. 30% of full time income is about $900 bucks. There are cities in California you can do that in. LA could do it too if we just legalized more market rate housing.

Incredible to see the "experts" on resolving the housing emergency that Spain is experiencing! On every television! @telediario_tve @ANoticias
@tele5_noticias @noticias_cuatro The reality is that we have politicians who try to create decrees and solutions when they lack the preparation or knowledge to devise a real solution to the problem we're facing.
Spain doesn't have a problem of a lack of decrees. It has a problem of a lack of housing.
And as long as the Government keeps confusing announcing measures with solving problems, we'll keep paying the consequences of its inaction.
Subsidizing demand without increasing supply pressures prices. Regulating a market more and more without building new housing doesn't eliminate scarcity: it manages it. Taxing a type of rental can change incentives, but it doesn't lay a single brick either.Because housing doesn't get cheaper by distributing scarcity. It gets cheaper by ending it.
Spain needs to build. A lot.
More available land. Permits in months, not years. More density wherever possible. Legal certainty. Much more public housing and also private housing.
But the Government isn't doing what's necessary. It prefers to intervene on the few homes that exist rather than create the conditions for there to be many more. It prefers to present patches as solutions and load the cost of its failure onto owners, developers, and citizens.
The rest can serve to redistribute, protect certain groups, or change incentives. But let's not confuse that with solving the underlying problem.
You don't fix a lack of housing by better distributing the few homes that exist. You fix it by making many more exist.
Less propaganda. Less patches. Less obsession with intervening on the same apartment.
More supply. More construction. More homes.
