Writes now return a `WriteHandle` that contains the sequence number of the write. This is a first step in adopting time-travel reads on SlateDB. Users can also tie sequence numbers to other identifiers such as PostgreSQL LSNs or Kafka offsets. slatedb.io/rfcs/0018-ex...

SlateDB now offers a `WalReader`. Users can now write low latency write-ahead log (WAL) consumers to implement change data capture (CDC) on SlateDB databases. slatedb.io/docs/design/...

Users can now write compaction filters to mutate or delete data during compaction. Importantly, this feature allows users to implement custom retention and truncation policies for their data. slatedb.io/rfcs/0017-co...

SlateDB 0.11.0 is out! We had 5 new RFCs, 10 new contributors, and 3 new language bindings. This is a big release with a bunch of improvements and new features. 🧵

The follower spam in this place is out of control. Very close to just abandoning this app. 100% garbage in this list. Just in the past day or two.

Lots of interesting SlateDB feature requests lately: - Tiered storage for compacted SSTs (we already support tiered WAL) - Direct L0 writes (bypassing in-memory skipmap) - WiscKey key-value separation for large values - Manual snapshot isolation conflict management

"We tried something different: Convert the MCP tools into a TypeScript API, and then ask an LLM to write code that calls that API." "In short, LLMs are better at writing code to call MCP, than at calling MCP directly." I'm going to go live in a cave.

ChatGPT5 plugin just helped me fix two different race conditions while I was refactoring some code. Today was a good day.

Yep. As @ry.codes says, ChatGPT works out of the box with a bunch of SaaS API (OpenAPI+Oauth) endpoints. In fact, they literally _just_ added remote MCP support 2 days ago. 😆

Experimenting with different ways to reduce distraction. So far, simply removing all icons from all iOS pages has been wildly effective.

This is amazing. Codex telling me it can't commit to doing the work, and asks if I can submit the PR so it can review it.

I decided to train for this Murph to push my time. I asked ChatGPT to come up with a plan, and it looked really good. I decided to follow it, and it worked really well! I am planning to use ChatGPT as a sounding board to plan goal-specific mesocycles going forward. Prompt, plan, and .md it made 👇

🔥 @diptanu.bsky.social has launched the cloud hosted version of Tensorlake. This looks pretty magical. The Pydantic support is so cool. Reminds me of @prefect.io's Marvin API. But Tensorlake purpose-built parsing for structured PDF (and other) documents.

Its first response was exactly right. I contacted PGE and they showed up at 1am (!!). The guy told me that one of the 120v legs was out. He split it to give us full 120v to all circuits, but they needed to fix the cabling or transformer.

This is cool! Query unstructured text with SQL-like grammar but using prompts for the clauses.

It also looks like they're not protocol compatible. Rolling this out across the org is going to take a decade.

Killer talk on LinkedIn's Northguard system (Kafka replacement). Lots of take aways from the talk, but my biggest is that it's very early still. No transactions, no object storage tiering, no idempotent producer. (AFAICT) Also, 17.5PB/day?! 🤯 www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDV6...

There's something in the water around CI/CD lately. Everyone seems unhappy with the current state of affairs. - bsky.app/profile/lali... - bsky.app/profile/alex... - x.com/richardartou... Seems like most of the complaints are around state caching?

SlateDB 0.6.0 is out! github.com/slatedb/slat... Highlights include a hybrid cache (using Foyer), a lot of internal cleanup, and more groundwork for transactions. Oh, and put performance jumped ~80% for write-heavy workloads :) slatedb.io/performance/...

This seems like the really important bit that gets at what I was asking. IIUC, using event slack rather than 0 means you can compact the diffs in the historical timeline more aggressively? Thus, minimizing state persistence at the cost of data loss (late arrivals).

SlateDB is on fire right now... PR work just in the last 13 hours: - multi-get - WAL on S3 Express One Zone - non-object store manifest storage (RFC) - adding seqnum as groundwork for txns/snapshots 🤯
