A random Facebook comment on Jeremy Paxman: "even if his life was a little colourful" White men really can get away with doing whatever the hell they want without facing a single jot of criticism from their fellow white men.

I once went to a wedding where the father of bride started his speech, "On this day in 1912, the Titanic set sail from Southampton…"

As an utter punt, that’s very impressive! Trying to avoid spoilers for anyone else, but I was camping in the area in late June 2004, so the umbrella was slightly triggering.

My brother came home one day, talking about the delicious "soft margarines" he’d had at school. After a considerable about of time and effort my parents eventually figured it out.
An AI generated image of some iced gems in an empty tub of soft margarine. Yes, it’s AI, how could I possibly have a real photo of this?

I totally find maths easier than history. Maths has a right answer and you know when you’ve found it.

I wasn’t earning anything except my student loan but my parents still expected nominal rent and a contribution to household bills during university holidays - I was using up household resources, after all. I went home as little as possible and didn’t live at home at all after I started working.

Anything supernatural, if you can answer without spoilers? I know some people love that, but it feels like a cop out to me - I want there to be a well written rational explanation for any mysterious goings on!

Slightly nervous of it being horror rather than thriller but otherwise that looks very tempting.

"Demand", "require", …🙄
An excerpt from the article:

Others point out bare nails often demand their own time-consuming and costly routine.

"The irony in all this is these natural nails are natural either," Shapiro says. "They also require a lot of grooming and sometimes pretty premiere services."

FFS. Sometimes (nearly all the time, to be honest) I just can’t be bothered with nail varnish, and long nails get in the way of everything. It’s not that deep, but if anything I’m sticking it to the patriarchy. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

That sounds rather good. I’m sure my old takeaway down south did something like that but when I looked, the only thing I took away from their website was that they are having an Elvis night soon.

Last summer I had a delicious chicken chasni at an Indian restaurant in Pitlochery and I’ve been trying to find somewhere local that does it ever since, but I’m beginning to think that the place in Pitlochery is the one and only place that sells it.

This is the wrong part of the country for me but sounds like a good opportunity. But is there someone who knows how life in a sixth form college differs from life in a secondary school? I’ve always been tempted but would want to know more first.

While this is a potentially valid counter argument for primary school children and most other normal humans, you may be underestimating the dubious talents and ambitions of some 20 year old men.

I had friends at university who would absolutely consider a loaf of bread cut in half and filled to be a sandwich. It was (for them) a staple of our summer Sunday lunch picnics.

So how are the other houses still standing if there’s a mine so close? I’m still slightly traumatised from a brief stretch of childhood spent living in Norwich when people kept losing corners of their houses and/or double decker buses to the chalk sinkholes.

B should be quieter but not full shut up, so C1 for emergency toilet breaks only but I never drink at the cinema because I don’t want to miss anything! At comedy last night, two rows in front were up and down like a jack in the box all night - we weren’t the ones moving but it was distracting.

I am very grateful whenever colleagues cover my lessons. Of course I am. I would be even more grateful if they followed my instructions for the lesson rather than doing their own thing and leaving me to figure out that I still need to allow time to do the things I thought had already been done.

Oh, if I was going to ski, I’d totally do it for free by going on a school trip (assuming all the cool teachers don’t get offered all the spots first).

Chloe @chochlo.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Technically there are ski resorts in Britain but that does rather rely on having actual snow. I imagine the Scottish ones are a little more reliable. My uncle and aunt are skiers, with their own place somewhere in Austria, and I still don’t get it.
010
Chloe @chochlo.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
But the thing about not skiing as a child is that you don’t have to ski as an adult and I can’t tell you how much money and effort that must have saved me over the years.

My parents (grandparents?) cobbled together what they could for the Very Big Deal trips (music ones mainly, and they were brilliant and worth every single penny) but ski trips? Forget it. Then they do the ski trip assembly afterwards to show off what a great time was had by all the rich kids 🙄

I boarded at sixth form at the school I was already going to, with a few good friends starting to board at the same time. I loved it and it gave me stability that I wasn’t getting at home just then. Other friends had been boarding there from abroad at the age of 8! Definitely not for everyone…

It’s definitely very exposing! Needs a lot of mutual trust… I generally know where my limits are but I do sometimes have to admit defeat in the interests of actually getting through the rest of the lesson content 😂

I know nothing of the book or about teaching literature but I’d find it fascinating to see you experience it from scratch and see how you go about analysing and interpreting it. Like solving a tricky maths problem with my students so they can see my thought processes and how I handle getting stuck.

Our lovely Poppy had an argument with a van right at the start of lockdown and trips to the vet were limited and brief so alternative methods were required to check that her somewhat awkwardly positioned wounds were healing well. “Please find attached photos of Poppy’s arsehole.”

Y11 student: do predicted grades matter and do our revision homeworks count towards them? Translation 1: I’m worried that this could be important and I want to do my best. Translation 2: I want to check that this isn’t important so I can get away with doing the minimum amount of work possible.

The more I look, the more different it looks! Going into store is a pain, but at least you’d see exactly what colour you were getting.
110
Chloe @chochlo.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Purple. I’ve cheated and looked at the original online and they look different colours to me, with the original colour better matching their description. If you squint and use the right lighting, I could just about believe it’s all the same colour but it isn’t what I would have expected either.
