The Genocide Route is tragic because you prove that Chara's worldview was justified. The Pacifist Route shows that this law, to kill or be killed, doesn't HAVE to be reality.
It's why, by saving Asriel, the person Chara's plan hurt the most, you also save Chara from their own fatalistic worldview.
