Whaaaaaaat!? Another one! Whilst looking for Altella lucida at the CWT Penhale reserve, we spotted three "ants" running incredibly fast across some scree. Nope, not ants, Micaria albovittata! Another clifftop rarity being found new to one of the most worked cliffs here! @britishspiders.bsky.social
No Altella lucida here this year, but the addition of Micaria albovittata to the reserve is amazing. Incredible that I've not seen it before during my many visits here.Micaria albovittata

The mythical beast known as Trochosa spinipalpis from a local site (thanks @judywebb.bsky.social). After putting in hundreds of hours looking across southern England, I wasn’t disappointed! They really do look dark, almost earthy in the field. @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social

What amazing weather this weekend, I hope everyone has filled it with excellent spiders! A highlight for me was seeing this massive Gnaphosa occidentalis with her invert graveyard - remnants of various beetle elytra, earwigs, other Gnaphosa and even a Dysdera. @britishspiders.bsky.social

When you see a big female walck in the tray without the raised head turret it only screams one hope, yes a female W.obtusa. From deep in the leaf litter. Have about 4 records for this now never seen the male. @britishspiders.bsky.social #spiders #arachnids #Walckenaeria

@britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @chalkspring.bsky.social Always nice to find a Walck! This female W. vigilax was the very last spider I picked up during a recent excursion; I’ve found it before but this one allowed me to photograph it properly for a change!

From a wet woodland in West Sussex, leg spine count indicates Porrhomma oblitum. But to be 100% i will get my county recorder to check the specimen. Appearance looks correct. @britishspiders.bsky.social #spiders #arachnids

Porrhomma species and with the spine count on the legs ive ruled out all of them down to one species, of course this will be sent to my recorder to confirm but im 95% sure. Its Porrhomma cambridgei! A rare beast. From a path in damp woodland. @britishspiders.bsky.social #spiders #arachnid #spider

For me which i shared with @chalkspring.bsky.social is i find it in the trenches in woodland where the leaf litter is deep, i then move all the fresh stuff and sieve the well rotted black layer of leaves seems to work well.
