Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Very good question and one I’ve been pondering myself. What exactly are they up to? If the SNP aren’t extremely careful with this issue, they could end up getting badly burned. 120
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Hope - in this case, is nothing more than the latest version of the carrot-on-a-stick ideological brainwashing scam. Is that the Britain his dad wanted to see? 000
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026And on top of that, there’s 20% VAT on TV advertising. Advertising that commercial TV channels rely on to fund themselves, unlike the BBC, which receives the benefit of the TV licence fee. 110
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Hope - in this case, is nothing more than the latest version of the carrot-on-a-stick ideological brainwashing scam. Nothing measurable will change for the good of the majority. 020
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026“Free social care” in Scotland (and when introduced in England) does not mean a free care-home place. Personal care within a care home may be covered but the accommodation, food and other living costs still have to be paid by the individual, with financial assistance subject to means testing. 110
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Social care is devolved. Any additional Westminster spending on social care in England should generate a Barnett consequential for Scotland. That additional funding would give the Scot Gov an option. It could put it towards social care or choose to use it to support Scottish pensioners instead. 140
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026The Better Together campaign was built on lies and scaremongering. The Vow was made by the UK unionist leaders during the campaign and involved breaking purdah rules. It still hasn’t been delivered. If Scotland isn't permitted a second referendum, why shouldn’t the first referendum be rerun? 000
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Then why is Mr Swinney urging the UK Government to work towards rejoining the EU now? If Scotland’s future success depends on EU membership as an independent country, surely he should be focusing on securing Scotland’s opportunity to join the EU in its own right. 150

Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Social care is devolved in Scotland. If WM increases spending on a comparable service in England, the Barnett formula normally generates a consequential for Scotland. if England’s Care Service is funded through additional UK Gov spending, Scotland should receive a Barnett consequential. 020
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 02/10/2026We're all listening but nothing seems to be happening. 030
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The whole point of being a member of a political party to support it, help shape its direction and keep pressure on its leaders over policies. Isn’t it ironic that SNP members are having to pressure their own party to actually move forward with an independence strategy. What on earth is going on? 181
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I suppose it would be a bit like watching the telly in pubs and shops. Those places, including councils, would have to pay the levy, or maybe phone users would have to ‘subscribe or pay as you go’, like the Clean Air Zones. 110
Reposted by Robert FJacqui @jacquinotmybag.bsky.social · 26/09/2026If England decide to vote to go back into EU then I suggest that England Wales and Scotland go back in as independent countries. NI will get in through Irish unification. England should not be allowed to negotiate our assets so they can get back in 0104
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 26/09/2026He certainly was grilled and roasted but I don’t think he, the Labour Party or Westminster give a toss. He could have pulled his Y-fronts over his head and refused to answer the question for all the difference it would have made. Ultimately, they deny Scotland its right to self-determination. 030
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Would they need to ask Scotland’s Parliament for permission to hold an English independence referendum? No - of course not. (Not that the current Scottish Parliament would object.) 070
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Every MSP elected to Holyrood, now and in the future, should believe that Scotland has the right to determine its own future. If they don’t believe Scotland has that right, then what is the point of standing for election to Scotland’s Parliament? They should stand only for Westminster. 091
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 21/09/202620 years in Government and this is the stage we're at 😳 Stating the bloody obvious and then being ignored by Westminster. 111
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Or perhaps because nearly half of Scottish-born respondents voted NO. They were by far the largest group of NO voters in a post-referendum survey. The real issue isn’t a supposed “non-Scot” swing. 100
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Why does John Swinney even need pressure to get behind a new independence strategy? He should be willing to back every credible independence strategy. The lot. Every single one. Throw the kitchen sink at it too if it helps. 041
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 19/09/2026A meme can grab attention faster and convey an idea visually and be more shareable than plain text. It’s about the impact, not just the words. I hope there's not too many big words in this text post for a 5 year old to understand. 120
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 19/09/2026The pie chart does show the percentage born in Scotland, but the wording “Scots vs Non-Scots” implies something quite different and that’s where the graphic becomes misleading. 000

Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Because the word 'factual' was used twice: 47.3% is not the percentage of No voters who were born outside Scotland. It means 47.3% of the No voters in that survey were born in Scotland. The graphic appearing to show 47.3% as representing “non-Scots” or people born elsewhere is simply misleading. 100
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Just as he was in April in the run-up to the Holyrood election. Will we see a referendum this side of the next Holyrood election? 010
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 17/09/2026You may have come into politics to achieve independence but that was a while ago. Seeking achievement is a fine thing but only if you have a plan to achieve your goal. Otherwise, without a plan, there is no goal and ultimately no achievement. What's the plan? 011
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Project Fear hasn't really ever gone away and I doubt the Westminster elite are even slightly concerned, let alone shitting their pants. 000
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Devolution isn’t enough. Only independence will do. More devolution will only strengthen the unionist case for keeping Scotland in the Union. 050
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026The “NO to a referendum” letter has its own permanent place on the Downing Street photocopier or Word processor. No British Prime Minister loses any sleep over referendum requests. They just hit copy, paste, reject and carry on. 020
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Unfortunately that's all we are doing politically - asking. 110
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Will the MOU call for UDI, hard borders or approaching the UN? I’d like to think so, but I know it won’t. There’s no point making demands without consequences if those demands are simply ignored. That’s not demanding - that’s asking. 110
Robert F @chippyman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026The tactics to lock out the SNP are possible and always have been but whether they’ll actually work is anyone’s guess. Ironically, a unionist majority at Holyrood wouldn’t change the constitutional question, just as a majority of pro-independence parties hasn’t seemed to have done so. 020
