Just don't stay in the bubble all the time. Listen to things that are worth it, that may open your mind. Learn how to do this (and no I don't have any resources to teach you how, sorry, I had to learn by myself the hard way) but it's also okay to chill with people who'll make you feel vindicated.

If you think you were 'the only person' saying something that a lot of other people agreed with, even if it's the minority, then you've either accidentally or deliberately surrounded yourself by people who are specifically contrary to you. You don't know what it's like to ACTUALLY feel like this. To actually be one of about 5 people on social media standing up for a cause - often a life-or-death one, and casually being told, without so many words, that your opinion and thus survival doesn't really matter all that much to these people.

One of my favorite genres of post is when someone claims they were saying something like a year or two ago, and absolutely everyone dismissed them or mocked them or made them a pariah, and you look at what it is and it's something that like, at least 35% of people agreed with.

Camp Miasma didn't change me but it DID speak to me, as someone with genuinely unique, strange medical goings on, and that never happens to this degree. Not to the point where we've both written similar things entirely unrelated to one another with no way of her seeing mine later. Again, 5/5.

I kinda wish Jane Schoenbrun could see this; not because I want to tell her it was my 'awakening' or it 'changed me' or anything like that, but I doubt she hears about the effects of her movies from many biologically genderfluid and intersex people.

So when I say Jane Schoenbrun knows me, I mean, I believe she 'gets' me as a horror author, at least to some degree. And if it stopped at just the shower curtain stuff, okay. But there's also another element to this movie that is IDENTICAL to something in one of my stories. Very obscure imagery.

Now, being a fairly prolific author (ignore my Bluesky followers I'm famous in horror audio I promise) I've had my work (especially a few NSP stories) ripped off or 'borrowed from' a few times. I've seen a couple bits of my plots recreated almost shot-for-shot in movies. But what can you do?
