I drove by Blackhawk Park (Belden and Lavergne) the other day, and for the first time I noticed the fieldhouse. It doesn't look like any others I've seen. Architect Albert Schwartz designed the original building 1926. Cc: @tudoraf.bsky.social @dmercer.bsky.social @ladytophamcatt.bsky.social
Screenshot from Google Street view of the Blackhawk Park fieldhouse. Its architect was Albert Schwartz. "In 1926, a small brick fieldhouse with a gambrel roof was built in the park...two years later architect Walter W. Alschlager designed a major addition to the building."

These AI ads are garbage & a disgrace. Chicago’s lakefront doesn’t look like this, and whoever approved this trash needs to 1) hire REAL artists to create & 2) simply do better at their job. This is so embarrassing to see, especially at a mall in the heart of Chicago’s Mag Mile.

I'm trying out a new offering: custom building illustrations. There are limited spots open now, but more may open up depending on demand. Have you ever wanted an illustration of a particular building? Your home, a favorite building, a place you used to love when you were younger...now's your chance.

Hello from the endangered modernist masterpiece that is Pride Cleaners Architect: Gerald Siegwart, 1959
Color photo of the signs in front of Pride Cleaners. The most noticeable is a very midcentury design featuring 5 leaf shaped panels in different colors on tall black posts, each individual panel bearing one letter from the word "pride."Color photo of the distinctly midcentury entrance to Pride Cleaners emphasizing its bonkers angles. Above us, the roof comes to a dramatic triangular point, offering both style and shelter. The two glass walls of the entrance also meet in yet another triangle underneath it.Color photo of a sign in one of the windows surrounding the entrance to the cleaners. "Pride" is written in a lowercase font and on angle three times in blue, red and blue again. A strip of LED lights runs underneath.

Three two-flats on Pulaski near 31st in Little Village. At first glance they all look identical with ground level entrances and large front gables But there are small stylistic variations making each one unique 4x6 mini #linocut print
This style of two-flat with large front stepped gables and ground level entrances are mostly on the NW and SW side of the city, particularly the SW side. I've never figured out why they are so heavily concentrated there. There are a few on the NW side in neighborhoods like Avondale and Mayfair too

This is a miniature linocut print depicting 3 brick two-flats on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Printed with black oil ink on kitakata paper
