i definitely would like to see more and far more massive speed bumps. it’s a nice gesture to have speed limits and stop signs, but im in a school zone (where a teen was hit not long ago) and can watch people run the stop signs here going 60 all day long. there’s just no reason for them not to :(

think of it more as a weapon that capitalism wields against us. it is stealthy, which is why it’s so easy to defend when it is extremely so often misapplied

but i also think that devs who find success on any platform (this goes for steam as well), have a very very difficult time perceiving their own survivorship bias

right, ya like it's definitely stupid to write it off as a platform with no potential at all. i definitely think if your game is established, you have a solid mobile pipeline or a genius who can figure that out, and you have enough of a parachute to soften a bad landing, then its worth a shot

but if you’re a miracle dev for whom like, adding and maintaining a whole other platform is trivial and only takes a few weeks, ya don’t listen to my perspective, y’all blessed to infinity and im sure it’ll work out fine for you

tho it’s worked fine for some devs i know who already have a successful game and a lot of money, but like when you start at the top of the castle it’s easy to stay up there

but i guess ive seen like 10 million game devs kinda do exactly what youre decribing here and like 1% of the time for them it has been worth it, and the rest of the time it has been a ghastly waste of time, so the amount of convincing it would take is… a lot lol

it also doubles the amount of maintenance work, how many platforms need updated, your surface area for difficult to solve bugs that could halt development is hugely increased, how much work testing and qa is, and increases the codebase and devops complexity

this is such… a way of looking at it. for me it would be like 6 months to a year of extra dev time, and the statistical chance it would break even is like, probably 1-5%. it’s straight up irresponsible to consider mobile or most platforms in my case, so i’d caution folks to not be hasty here
