Really cool to see Sidney, Nebraska, host its Regional Civics Bee. Students got to show their civic knowledge, communication skills, and ideas for improving their communities. More authentic civic learning like this, please. #SocialStudies #Civics panhandle.newschannelnebraska.com/story/263811...

Tonight’s #iCivics Educator Network meeting was a great reminder that civics teachers do not have to do this work alone. I got to meet other educators, explore iCivics resources, and share advice on how to teach them in ways that fit real classrooms. 🩷 #CivicsEd

Civics should look like this. Students actually doing the work, not just reading about it. #sschat #civiceducation www.kjct8.com/2026/04/16/t...

❤️ Love seeing social studies teachers get this kind of recognition. Stories like this remind people our classrooms go beyond content. We’re building critical thinking, empathy, and civic understanding daily. We may not always get the spotlight, but this work matters. #sschat

Less tool collecting, more intentional design. Too many tools don’t elevate learning. They dilute it. Clarity is what lets students think like historians and actually push learning up the SAMR model. #sschat #iteachsocialstudies #edtech #iste

If students never see government up close, we shouldn’t be surprised when they tune it out. Experiences like this - real access, real conversations, real stakes - are what civic education is supposed to be. Not simulations. The real thing. #civicsed #sschat nebraskapublicmedia.org/en/news/news...

Engaging students in analyzing Supreme Court cases builds their ability to make decisions, collaborate with peers, address challenges, *and* solve problems. Here’s how. 🧑‍⚖️⬇️ #EduSy #sschat #ITeachSocialStudies

As the U.S. turns 250, the real question isn’t just what we celebrate. It’s whether people understand how democracy actually works. This piece argues for “civics upskilling” for everyone, not just students. Worth thinking about. #sschat #civicsed www.csmonitor.com/Editorials/t...

When students explore both the successes and failures of U.S. history, they build critical thinking, not just opinions. Most Americans say both matter. That’s a reminder that teaching honest, balanced history isn’t the problem. It’s the goal. #sschat #iteachsocialstudies #historyteacher

Another example of meaningful #CivicEducation. Students connecting with real people doing real work in their communities. That’s how civics starts to feel real... and possible. #sschat www.silive.com/news/2026/04...

This is what meaningful #CivicEducation looks like - hands-on, student-centered, and connected to real-world experiences. When students do civics, not just study it, it actually matters. #sschat texaslawbook.net/p-s-dba-civi...

The more students can see civic systems up close - courts, legislatures, public decision-making - the harder it is for social studies to feel abstract. Real institutions make civic learning concrete in ways no simulation ever fully can. #sschat #civiceducation

Teens aren’t apathetic about news — they’re overwhelmed and distrustful. New research shows the problem isn’t young people. It’s an information ecosystem built for engagement, not understanding. News literacy isn’t optional anymore. 🔗 newslit.org/news-and-res... #NewsLiteracy #Journalism

Lately I’ve been thinking about how rarely strong social studies instruction happens by accident. Engaging, meaningful learning usually comes from intentional curriculum design, collaboration beyond one classroom, and teachers having space to learn together. systems piece matters more than we admit.
