I have so much more to say but it's better said with me flailing my arms around in a passionate speech on a podium with a captive audience. Instead, if anyone wants to know more about my experiences (maybe you are working out your own rebellious path), please DM me. I'd love to talk

And PLEASE lets make it normal for men to take on substantial enough parental duties they feel the same exclusion and discomfort that primary carers and birth parents do. We all need to change this together so everyone has is afforded quality time with their children without it costing their careers

Cherie 🫵 MIGW @cheriedavidson.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

So let's change that shall we?? Let's make it normal for industry events to consider childcare like they do catering. Let's make it normal to communicate breastfeeding and pumping access along with best public transport & parking access.

Cherie 🫵 MIGW @cheriedavidson.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

It's not even that typical workplaces wouldn't afford that child-friendliness; it's that I wouldn't even dare to ask, I would assume a "no" and possible knocks to my professionalism for even trying. Even now, it's exhausting interfacing with events to find out their baby inclusion policies.

We could only make this work for us because we run our own company and we have absolutely feral work/life boundaries. We took our infant on international business trips, to bizdev pitches, she joins stand up calls and plays with our team when we have irl meeting days.

Cherie 🫵 MIGW @cheriedavidson.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

There's a beautiful and incredible spectrum of ways we can live, work and practice our craft with children that can't even be fathomed under current systems and so much more work is required to make space for birth parents & primary carers in "business" and "workplace" settings.

Dispelling the capitalist & patriarchal "working mum/carer" vs "stay at home mum/carer" dichotomy is something I care deeply about, having needed to forge my own path (with my incredible partner @dmkidney.bsky.social) even in just the last couple of pregnancy & infant years.

yeah sure whatever, let lara croft cook potato stew on her phone for 2m0s of damage resistance who gives a shit anymore

a screenshot from the upcoming remake of Tomb Raider 1. lara croft is looking at her phone in the middle of an ancient ruin, and it's showing her a generic crafting menu, and a png of saucepan of stew that apparently her phone lets her cook for "Damage resistance" if she has 6 potatoes

Normal Beetles: coming to stationary near you (not really, but wouldn't that be fun?)

simple cartoon designs representing real beetles.
upper left: "Xen" is a Xenomorphon. A wingless beetle who cries easily. He always wants to watch the same three movies.
upper right: "Atra" is an Atractocerus. A very long and flexible beetle who can fit in narrow areas. He gets nervous in big crowds.
lower left: "Clav" is a Claviger. A beetle who is always showing up in places without having been invited. He's a nice guy, though, so everyone is usually okay with it.
lower right: "Para" is a Paratuposa. A very small and light beetle who is blown around by strong wind. She brushes her wings for two hours every day.

upper left: "Cal" is a Calodromus. A beetle with long legs who actually hates running. When he gets angry, he kicks things.
upper right: "Platy" is a Platyrhopalopsis. A shy beetle who loves peace and quiet. She always gets nervous when it's her turn to order at restaurants.
lower left: "Kero" is a Cerocranus. A fussy beetle who cares a lot about his looks. He is often late to things, because he gets distracted by mirrors and windows.
lower right: "Ness" is a Cnestus. A small beetle who knows a lot about mushrooms. If she starts talking about something she likes, she will never stop.

simple cartoon designs representing real beetles.
upper left: "Mike" is a Micromalthus. A pleasant beetle who always tries to look at the bright side of things. People ask her when she will get married, but she says she is happy by herself.
upper right: "Koto" is a Coatonachthodes. A small beetle with a big tail that looks like a termite. Her tail isn't alive, but sometimes she talks to it when she thinks no one is listening.
lower left: "Mel" is a Meloetyphlus. A loud beetle who loves the sound of her own voice. Even though she has a huge head, she forgets things easily.
lower right: "Trak" is a Trachelismus. A beetle who can always see over the crowd at concerts. He has been getting into origami lately.

In Star Trek people often complain that replicated food is not as good as naturally produced food, which is weird when replicators are presumably using the same technology as transporters, which can perfectly replicate Spock every time. But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,

Also taking breaks for non work & non computer tasks like the washing or dishes. I often take calls and brainstorm/plan in another room which leads to taking breaks when moving between tasks/rooms

I've used pomodoros with limited success, use a weird chair (like a saddle or hag capisco) plus electric standing desk with moderate success. BUT best guarantee is having things I need to access across the room/house, like test/build machine or task whiteboard.
