Anyone else remember in 2020/2021 during lockdown when Zuckerberg made a video that soon people wouldn't even take vacations or pay for outdoor experiences? That they would just be in the metaverse...and wow here we are now. I feel like @tressiemcphd.bsky.social rightly called that this would happen

You cannot talk like this about any other minority in America. And if it was any other president’s adviser who said something like this about any other minority, it’d be the instant end of their presidency.

"Last night's victory proves that Mississippi is no longer a foregone conclusion—we are a battleground state," Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Cheikh Taylor says in a statement this morning after Democrats broke the GOP Senate supermajority.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 5, 2025

Historic Victory: Mississippi Democrats Break Republican Supermajority
JACKSON, MS — In a historic rebuke of extremism, Mississippi voters shattered the Republican supermajority in the state Senate last night, restoring balance and accountability to state government—a victory made possible by the very Voting Rights Act protections now under threat before the Supreme Court.

Decisive Democratic wins from the Delta to the Pine Belt demonstrate that when every voice can be heard, Mississippi voters reject Trump-aligned policies and choose leaders committed to working families, quality education, and economic opportunity.

Newly elected and returning Democratic champions include:

Theresa Isom (Senate District 2)
Reginald Jackson (Senate District 11)
Justin Crosby (House District 22)
Johnny DuPree (Senate District 45)

"Last night's victory proves that Mississippi is no longer a foregone conclusion—we are a battleground state," said Cheikh Taylor, Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman. "But this win was only possible because the Voting Rights Act ensures fair representation. If the Supreme Court dismantles these protections, we risk silencing the very voices that made last night's historic outcome possible. As voters continue to reject Trump's agenda in 2026 and 2027, we must protect the fundamental right that makes change possible: the right to vote."

"Tonight, Mississippi voters reminded us that change is possible when we show up together," said Mississippi Democratic Party Vice-Chair Jodie Brown. "Breaking the supermajority means restoring checks and balances—and ensuring that every Mississippian's voice counts in their state government."

This breakthrough victory reflects communities reclaiming their power and demanding leaders who represent their interests—not partisan extremes.

"The road to 2026 and 2027 begins now," said Taylor. "Rooted in accountability, opportunity, and protecting every Mississippian's voice."

Shreveport, LA, the largest city in Speaker Mike Johnson's district, has a murder rate more than twice Chicago's, and a crime rate considerably higher than both the state and national average. And Johnson isn't calling for the military to invade it. One of many ways we know this isn't about crime.

NEW: When Biden nominated Scott Colom to a federal court, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith used the Senate's "blue slip" tradition to block his nomination. Now, instead of a federal judgeship, Colom is aiming to unseat her in the Senate. @heatherharrison.bsky.social reports on his campaign launch:

tbh i'm deeply amused how we went from accusations of welfare queen stuff in the 70s/80s to this

Have four or more babies in Hungary and you'll pay no income tax for life

When are we going to do this in America?

honestly I hate the whole framing that a woman choosing not to sleep with or go out with a man is “rejecting” him it makes it sound so active, like the default is to say yes when in actuality we all walk by hundreds of people every day that we’re not going to sleep with
