Matt's correct that RESIDENT EVIL does feel like a video game livestream, but I think that's a credit to the film. A talkative protagonist who understands that his world is governed by specific rules is, in a sense, true to the experience of playing games (or watching them be played).

Neither Wargamer nor EN World received preview details about the World of Warcraft D&D book. Instead, everything is being filtered through YouTube influencers and WotC's Dungeon Masters AP series. Covering previews is dubious work anyhow, but journalists were seemingly left out of the first push.

This book was a genuine delight. Brutal and mean and filled with moments of barely-revealed tenderness that belies the fact that Astarion is an absolute bastard. Kingfisher captures Astarion's voice so perfectly it was like I had Neil Newbon speaking in my ear. A lovely, sad, tragic read.

T. Kingfisher’s Astarion is hilarious, heartbreaking, and utterly tragic
The book perfectly captures Astarion’s voice, and refuses to talk down to the audience through trauma, pain, and the small light of hope.
