public.nrao.edu/ask/why-do-t... I love the idea that Jeff Mangum inbetween singing whimsically with a janggly guitar is just really into specifically the physics of planet rotations

Question: The planets in our solar system are orbiting the Sun counter clockwise, why? Do the laws of physics...

what a beautiful face i have found in this place that is circling counterclockwise all round the sun
explanation as to a question by a "David" where he asks why planets are rotating counter clockwise around the sun & the signature at the end of the explanation is Jeff Mangum (happens to be the same name as the guy who sings for neutral milk hotel lol)

Invited to the Anthropic dinner they had us fill out a questionnaire asking us who was the most interesting person we met, the AI listened to our convos, gave us a ranking from least to most interesting; I’m sad to say I got least interesting. Claude took me out back and shot me.

"When a bridge collapses, you don’t analyze whether the bridge was ethical or sentient or why it decided to collapse. You ask, who built this bridge to be so flimsy? There are permits you have to acquire [& supposed] tests. When you ask about the bridge collapsing itself, you’ve lost the thread"

when the openAI guy was like “why would you ruin your career” and Buckmaster said “I am an academic” I’ve said it once I’ll say it again: corporatism is a collective psychosis.

Math drama has existed before written history, and math drama will persist long after we are gone. When all else crumbles, there will always be math drama. cims.nyu.edu/~tristanb/st... (Unsurprisingly OpenAI regurgitated existing unpublished work by researchers)

if you’ve been through the tech layoff wringer its worth looking for software jobs at places that aren’t tech companies. hospitals, municipal and state governments, universities - all of these places need programmers and a lot of the jobs are even union!

I’m hosting a math club and one of the guys assumed I didn’t know what an LLM is and explained it to me. The life I would have to live to not know what an LLM is and also use my free will to host a math club is one I wish I had.

Creating a custom framework helped people make incredible things with Sensor Watch, and I want to see the same explosion of possibility with the framework I've developed for Open Book Touch.

The Kinect I think also falls in this category, where like yes it’s for creating games but people took it so far and now there’s a Kinect on the moon.

I think TE illustrates a genre of tools. Another counterexample genre that’s more fun is where the tool was for making a creative community and then the creative community took it way farther than expected: brother knitting machines, where decades later ppl are hacking then w arduinos

I feel like teenage engineering objects created a community that was the intended size and use. But it’s def like centered around the company as some sort of product demigod. Have I seen a whole bunch of inspiring work? Not really, but every user is stoked to have a TE object

you’re looking for a counter example as in physical tools that were made to create a creative community around it?

Yes this is what I’ve been saying, a tech employee is regularly asked to make a decision that will affect infrastructure for millions of people, that is more control than a lawmaker

Just typical people who comfortable to ask for help get on top continue to do so even when they’re well off and those who never ask for help who actually need it opt to suffer. No shame on the guy who asked for the community supported membership, smart of him, albeit a little tone deaf

While theses ENDLESS amounts of people who actually need it 🤔maybe if they listen to the lyrics of lean on me by bill whithers “Please swallow your pride If I have things you need to borrow For no one can fill those of your needs That you won't let show”

We are announcing a “community supported” membership type at hex and already the people who want to use it as a trial to use to work their high income designer jobs are asking for it. The comfort at which theyre asking to be supported by the community MISSES ME

i hate that AI companies have muddied the word "generative" Generative art: procedural art created using a *system of mathematical rules designed intentionally* by the artist. AI-generated: created by automated systems (LLMs) using opaque, extractive processes unknown to both the user and viewer.
