I remember one person talking about how they sat in a cold, dark room every evening. Too scared of the cost of putting a light on, let alone the heating. Basically, however bad you think the problem is, in reality it's much much worse. 2/2

Such an important point here. This data is shocking, but just the tip of the iceberg. At our food bank it was heartbreaking to hear how long people had struggled for before visiting. Usually months of skipping meals (sometimes entire days without food), making every conceivable sacrifice. 1/2
