I was delighted to present the Mayor of London Award to @phoenixtogether.bsky.social’s Farmstead Road development in LB Lewisham, designed by Metropolitan Workshop, at the Housing Design Awards. Farmstead Road shows how a constrained suburban site can provide much-needed affordable family homes.

A major milestone has been reached at Thameside West. Our partners Arada London have submitted plans for the first 1,500 homes along with a new park and riverside walk. It’s the first phase of 5,000 homes that will transform this part of the Royal Docks. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Andy Burnham just gave one of the best Labour Leader’s speeches I’ve ever heard. Solid and incredibly welcome commitments on a new era of council housing, leasehold reform, support for first time buyers, and ending rough sleeping.

Rent control that exempts new build homes could deliver more affordability for renters while ensuring we don’t discourage vital new housing supply. Good to discuss excellent work on this by @jrf-uk.bsky.social @ippr.org & NEF, and get the public’s view from Persuasion’s @steveakehurst.bsky.social.

It’s great to hear that the government will strengthen the ability of councils to take over long-term empty homes. While London has the lowest proportion of empty homes of any English region, it’s right that we use all the levers we can to bring them back into use.

To our London MPs, councillors, Assembly Members and trade union allies: thank you for everything you’re doing for the captial. Great to see so many friends and colleagues at the London Labour reception in Liverpool last night, and introduce Chancellor John Healey.

This morning I chaired the fourth meeting of our London Housing Mission Board which brings together key players in the sector with the aim of accelerating housing delivery. Today we looked in depth at the cost of delivering new homes.

I'm speaking at #LREF about how the Mayor is streamlining planning, unblocking sites and shaping the future of housing in London. London needs more homes and we're doing all we can to deliver them. Now we've laid the foundations, the sector must work with us to get building.

Delivering new homes is a top priority for @london.gov.uk. The Mayor’s NHA LDN and ATLAS LDN programmes are working with partners to remove barriers that delay delivery, and are supporting the acceleration of home building across London. I saw this first hand in Crayford.

The funeral of a war criminal takes place today. It’s shocking that Serbia continues to glorify him. There’s an incredible BBC doc about the collapse of Yugoslavia and the Bosnian war in which men like Mladic boast about their war crimes on camera. youtu.be/tj9Zw5fN3rE?...

London is leading the way nationally on council home building, with half of all new council homes in England built in the capital last year. Great to join Angela Rayner, Matthew Pennycook and Sadiq Khan to visit Greenwich Council’s Kidbrooke Park development - 452 brand new council homes.

Today we are announcing over £6bn for affordable housing in London. 70% of it will be social housing and 60% will be delivered by councils. It’s the first allocation from @london.gov.uk’s new Social and Affordable Homes Programme of up to £11.7bn over ten years.

This is extraordinary - a @qmul.bsky.social study has found that children’s lung development accelerated following the introduction of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) by @london.gov.uk. It’s taken bold action and leadership to clean up London’s air.

We just celebrated the first new homes at Northgate Park in Haringey. This is a very special development for City Hall. As well as funding affordable homes, the Mayor bought the site from the NHS using his Land Fund. That means 60% of the 995 homes will be affordable.
