Yes climate change is already killing people www.imperial.ac.uk/grantham/pub...
Bar chart showing heat-related deaths in several European cities from 23 June to 2 July 2025, distinguishing between numbers due to human-caused climate change and those due to natural variability
Milan: 317 from human caused climate change, 182 natural
Barcelona: 286, 54
Paris: 235, 138
London: 171, 92
Rome: 164, 118
Madrid: 108, (then some relatively small number not given)
Athens: 96, 79
Budapest: 47, 24
Zagreb: 31, 25
Lisbon: 21, 71
Frankfurt: 21 (then some relatively small number not given)

Added text says two-thirds of heat deaths in London were attributable to climate change

The village of Blatten in Switzerland is partly buried by the collapse of a glacier which melted because our greenhouse gas emissions warmed the climate. Another reminder that choosing to not invest enough today to reduce emissions means far greater costs for society in the long term.

Line chart – China's CO2 emissions are now 1% below their March 2024 peak: China’s emissions from fossil fuels and cement, million tonnes of CO2, rolling 12-month totals. Source: Emissions are estimated from National Bureau of Statistics data on production of different fuels and cement, China Customs data on imports and exports and WIND Information data on changes in inventories, applying emissions factors from China’s latest national greenhouse gas emissions inventory and annual emissions factors per tonne of cement production until 2024. Sector breakdown of coal consumption is estimated using coal consumption data from WIND Information and electricity data from the National Energy Administration.

Scientists who study climate don't automatically attribute all changes to human activity. Rather, we carefully investigate every possible natural factor that could explain the planet's warming. Could these be the real culprits? The evidence is in--and the answer is NO. This thread explains! 🧵

Graph showing daily global mean near-surface air temperatures for 2025. This is also compared to the daily data from the 1971-2000 average, 1981-2010 average, and 1991-2020 average. Annotations are also shown to the current year with the other years from 1940 to 2024 and a threshold of 2°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial level. There is a strong seasonal cycle, with a peak during the boreal summer season. There is a long-term warming trend. 2024 is also indicated, which was the warmest year on record. Data is from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis and updated through 29 April 2025.
