The argument is a bit more nuanced I think. Their issue is also with: - perceived water / energy use to produce said slop - how the models were trained - possibly still feeling threatened as they believe people will prefer to save money with the slop

I’m not absolving him of everything — there’s plenty to criticise. I just don’t get the one that he’s bad at business. The vast majority of people who try to start one fail, and he’s built multiple multi-billion dollar ones in separate industries? Dad having money doesn’t explain it.

I think when someone plays a significant role in building a fairly large, profitable electric car company, and the stock goes through the roof as so many people believe in their execution, they’ve probably earned our benefit of the doubt as to how they spend on R&D.

Remember the original point I was responding to was ‘none of his businesses make real profit.’ This is SpaceX. Is the implication that he’s bad at business because one of his multiple companies ‘only’ makes ~$3 bn profit? There is much to criticise, but this probably isn’t it.

His businesses aren’t random websites that just spit out profit — they’re incredibly capital intensive manufacturing companies, in terms of the type of talent they need, raw materials, R&D etc. Does anyone in these sectors turn a huge profit?
