What’s the estimation you have on how many people this would actually get interest from, enough to bring them over from X or anywhere else?

Can we be honest that so called 'wokeness' meant Black people demanding full social personhood and refusing to be silent about getting murdered/harmed by the state? So yes, that is more threatening to many in this country than is fascism. I think that's been clear.

Is it Chick-fil-A? Harry Potter? Walmart? Target? Kanye? Kevin Hart? Buffy? Apple? Microsoft? Google? You cannot boycott your way into morality. It’s doesn’t work.

A reminder to all of you mocking John Gruber’s post: first of all, I have no particular opinion about the man and will continue to not. He’s an Apple blogger and I woefully ignorant about many other things. But I feel it incumbent upon me to remind you all that you’re hypocrites about something.

Who, exactly, has been arguing that AI might game “human consciousness”? Not Will! Not anyone I know! And actually “I think you are a robot” is exactly what people consider dehumanization and you saying otherwise is a gigantic self-own, and you know it.

There’s not a single website or platform that I can use and not be punched in the face daily by all sorts of bigotry towards me in one form or another, and some of that shit these sites don’t even consider bigotry. In a situation like that, why would someone leave the community they already built?

Bryan (they/them) @chaosgreml.in · 12/10/2026
Reddit likely has as much racist and white supremacist bullshit on it as X does. It’s just got nice little blinders people can put on and pretend it isn’t there. Seems like the real issue people have is seeing bigotry, more than the bigotry itself.

I might also be that many of us simply refuse to let a pitiful excuse for a man run us off a platform that we made what it is until we can safely bring our communities other places. I think it’s reductionist to flatten people returning to or never leaving X to one stereotype.

I know a LOT of Black, trans, disabled, fat, and ND people who still use X & who are absolutely far stronger pracitioners of revolutionary and liberatory politics than many of the folks on Bluesky. It might be that some of us have a lot more experience living & thriving under oppression.
121
Bryan (they/them) @chaosgreml.in · 12/10/2026
True, on Bluesky people love to stealth their bigotry I gotta say, I’’ve been harassed and treated far worse on Bluesky than I ever was on X or Twitter as an outspoken fat Black trans person. It might be that the platform is so large that we all have different experiences over there.

How many people yelling at people going back to X use Reddit? Because if so, y’all are just fucking hypocrites.

I thought this was obvious. People only do things, ultimately, because they believe it will make them feel good at some point.

I know that I say nobody changes their minds because someone corrects them on social media but just in the last 24 hours I took multiple turns around that silly math AI study, thanks to @byarielm.fyi and @grimalkina.bsky.social - each turn leading me to learn more!

It doesn’t actually show this! It shows how you ALREADY treat people in general. We don’t have any science that shows the reverse at this point - it’s too early. But we do have a lot of science that says abusing video game characters doesn’t make you more likely to abuse people or animals

We definitely have the harder road, and its an excellent illustration that “smart” often applies to very narrow domains, while “influence” unfortunately, does not.

Bryan (they/them) @chaosgreml.in · 12/10/2026
Ahh well this I agree with you on, as I’m sure you know. But of course, the problem is that it is _also_ a *very* good way to get your message out, and in fact, much of the reason for that is inherent in its design!

no one is going to personalize everything, and most people will not customize substantial amounts of the software in their lives. some people will. those people are already Linux users and customize a lot of their software. this is an argument over a thing that is not going to happen.

Is it? What is the purpose of Barack Obama having an account on social media? It’s certainly not to be read only by people who agree with him, or by a much smaller percentage of the population. Are we mad that the Pope has an account on there?

Gotcha, the elite part caught me off guard, since in my experience people use “elites” to mean “individuals whom I think are or should behave like institutions because they have a lot of money and power”

Again, this is why I *never* left X. I just don’t use it hardly ever. I go there once every couple of weeks to look at it for 5-10 minutes, and then move on. Been way more effective than *swearing off it* in a fit of pique and then missing my friends before I’d built up new spaces.

Bryan (they/them) @chaosgreml.in · 12/10/2026
Ehhhh. It’s really easy to place this at the feet of individuals, but the reality is that you’re working against millennia of human behavior patterns when it comes to socialization. There’s a reason change management is a profession.
