Hey, librarian here. If you find out a favorite author is a monster, don't separate the art from the author just give it the fuck up and stop supporting the monster.

Today I heard about an interesting book on a public radio station show, then when I got home I went to the website for my local public library and requested it. I'll have it tomorrow for free. This is precious. We must protect this.

3,300 passengers travel through LaGuardia every hour, every day, every year. 29 million total. Running that airport with a single ATC in charge of both sky and ground traffic is inexcusable and if the shortage is that bad then we need to shut some airports down

Well, well, well. Just discovered that Monday morning 6am is my favorite time to write and reply to emails because it’s the least expected of me? Fellow neurodivergents, actively release yourself from any semblance of normal, expected, or predictable behaviors.

What’s the point of having unlimited paid time off benefits if I don’t take any fucking time off?? Finally booked a solo 3 day vacation in Savanna in a pretty cottage, close to some beaches. Excited to start exploring North America!

Born to type "colour", forced to type "color"
A Git commit on GitHub titled "English (Simplified)" with the description "For consistency."

The diff shows a class name being renamed from "Colour" (spelt with a U, for English (UK)) to "Color" (without a U, for English (US)).

Been reading a lot about how unhinged the Gregorian calendar is, how so much of it doesn't make sense for our natural rhythms. Like why is NYE bang in the middle of winter? Particularly drawn to the lunar cycle as a meaningful alternative, been experimenting: chandniverse.github.io/lunar-calend...

Hate when I have to use .docx for writing assignments, papers. I do most of my writing and thinking in markdown (with Obsidian), but .md is not great for sharing, it opens up in notepad on recipient's end.

Weekend project: working on a print-only social media platform. Friends post as usual, but you don’t get to see them in a live, infinite, feed. You get a monthly print digest full of notes and updates from people you care about.

At work, I use AI a lot, there’s no opting out, this is how we work now. I use it for synthesizing huge, unstructured datasets, for writing code, for reading code, for scraping data, for early explorations, quick evaluations, to build internal tools. It’s exhilarating. And exhausting.

Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants. Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this. Do not.

my view is that everyone should be able to earn a living wage doing whatever it is they like. if you love working in a bookshop, you should be able to live a comfortable life doing so. if you loving being a barista, the same. and if you want to do more traditional blue collar work, that’s cool too!

one of the more endearing human behaviors imo is "tell 'em i say hi." even with ppl we don't know sometimes, if they make ppl we care about happy and you know they're on the line you just give a quick little "hi". we're like birds, just constantly making little companion calls to each other
