I heard a story from someone who sold software to XBL customer service that would analyze speech in realtime and let the rep know if they should say “Ethernet cable” or something like “squarish grey cord”, based on age. At the time, it was the youngins who understood Ethernet.

Yo, Ben. You get to decide what’s printed on this package of rice. Why do I need to bust out the measuring tape to see how far I should tear on the dotted line?

Instructions for cooking a pouch of coconut sticky rice.

Microwave*
1. Squeeze pouch to separate rice
2. Tear two inches to vent
3. Cooking Times:
1 pouch - 90 seconds
2 pouches - 2½ minutes
4. Remove from microwave using
COOL TOUCH area on untorn side

Skillet
1 Squeeze pouch to separate rice and pour contents into skillet
2 Add 2 Tosp. of water and heat. Stir occasionally until heated thoroughly

I’m kind of sick of this sentiment. I’ve worked in data centers across three continents, before GenAI was popular. Facilities across the world, even in the US, give a shit about efficiency in thermal costs. Yet suddenly, people are bothered by others unfettered use of electricity via the internet.

I want to share that recently I did investigate that noise in our woods while I was out there and it was well-lit daylight, but I *have* been reading @tkingfisher.com horror recently so it still took the courage and resolve to believe it wasn’t skinwalkers or malicious fungi.
