This was back in the day when it was not common to know the gender of your child before birth. It was possible, but we decided we didn't want to know. So, there I sat on the couch pondering what the second one would bring.

As I sat there I started to imagine a 7-month old child, female, just pulling herself to standing position at the coffee table in front of me. She had blond hair and blue eyes. I scolded myself for raising expectations and tried to put the thought and vision out of my head. However, it would not leave my mind. It only grew stronger until I felt like it had taken control of me and wouldn't go away. "This is silly! Stop imagining this! You have no idea, and you shouldn't be thinking like this for fear of betraying the 'real' child that would be born!" The feeling and vision lasted for what seemed much too long to be a passing thought or daydream; it was extraordinarily stronger than anything I had experienced.

Eventually the thoughts subsided and no longer had such a grip on me, but I continued to wonder why that moment was so intense.

Fast forward to seven months after the birth of my second child. I happened to be sitting on the couch in the same place when my daughter crawled over to the coffee table in front of me, pulled herself up to standing at the table. It was the identical sight I had seen earlier. She was blond and blue-eyed, and looked exactly the way I had seen her. It was then that I realized why that strong sensation came over me while pregnant. I have had other instances of seeing things I thought to be impossible, only to have them happen, but it's very rare, and I haven't experienced it anymore.

I wanted to find a photo of my daughter close to the age of 7 mo., but they are not accessible. This is Cheryl when she was about 3 years old...my blond, blue-eyed daughter.
