“AI” IS impacting labor, but not in the ways you think. In some cases, people generating “workslop” are making their colleagues’ jobs more difficult. Snippet from my video Myths of AI and Productivity, in which we at dispel 5 common myths around AI and labor. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BO0...
There are three stacked screenshots from a video of Alex, a brown trans woman, sitting on a pink chair and speaking into the camera while holding a small microphone. She has short black curly hair and is wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and light tan pants. Behind her is a cat-shaped pillow with an image of a tuxedo cat on it, and behind her chair are rows of books on a light blue wall. Underneath are captions from the video that say: “But generative AI can also reduce wages in other ways, namely by punishing workers who use the tools and pass on ‘workslop’ to their colleagues.”, “...researchers report that receiving generative AI text or images from colleagues results in lower perceptions of the competence of their colleagues.” and “Getting slop from your colleague makes you think worse of them. And if those workers are women or older, or people of color, then it confirms their co-workers’ biases against them.”

ICYMI, yesterday I visited the CBC Daybreak South studio to chat with @chriswalkercbc.bsky.social about the issues raised in my article in the G&M this weekend on Big Tech and why our “AI problem” is really a “digital platforms problem.” www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...

Opinion: The real threat of AI is that we can no longer separate our digital and analogue lives
AI tools are just a handful of the countless ways that our lives are already governed by digital platforms and the companies that control them

🔇 🔇 🔇 My book, Deep Unlearning, is now available for preorders! I don't know how people write so many books because this one took a lot out of me. It turns out, I had a lot to say 😂, with editors cutting out 50k of my words 🫣 ✴️ You can now preorder it at www.simonandschuster.com/books/Deep-U....
Cover of my new book, Deep Unlearning: The Rise of AI and The Radicalization of a Tech Idealist.

There are two concentric circles in the book, the left being circuits in black an white, and the right being a bunch of dots with orange accents. The cover background is cream. And the words are written in black except for "Un" which is in orange.

I can't wait for this TESCREAL doomer summer to come to an end 🙄 I literally asked this to Elon Musk in 2015 when said the same thing (before ChatGPT), as you can read on the first page of Empire of AI. karendhao.com

Hey so it's the height of irresponsibility in gaming journalism to write any story about Pokemon Go that doesn't mention how it functions as a surveillance network. Like, we don't get to uwu pwetend that it's just sunshine and rainbows anymore, gang. This kind of writing drives cultural complicity.
