I think they're still the one who make the appointments though. And I don't see why Lapid, at least, wouldn't do it if he's elected--Eisenkot was a decisionmaker, but I find it difficult to believe Yair Lapid, at the time Leader of the Opposition, would come off looking bad in comparison to Bibi.

I believe the UNGA is the one who decides these things, and they do try to represent the world equally. And the opposition might. Gadi Eisenkot and Yair Lapid both called for one yesterday: www.jpost.com/israel-news/... (Eisenkot is the biggest opposition figure, Lapid is the 2nd or 3rd largest)

Because it would hurt Netanyahu and he's a crook and war criminal and needs to stay in power to avoid prison. If you mean the UN, because they try to represent the world equally when over 1/3 of people say Jews are behind most of the world's wars and 48% blame us for antisemitism. (0.2% are Jews.)

In conditions objectively worse than October 6 Gaza, Jews *somehow* managed to not commit mass murder. Why? Are (Ashkenazi) Jews inherently better? Can Palestinians not be expected to be held responsible for their own actions? (Are we *sure* they should have a state?) That seems kinda racist (5/6)

In response to those pogroms, Jews formed self-defense groups. We did not form 'rampage against the people around us' groups, even if in all likelihood they tolerated/supported it being done to us. We did not kill anyone not *actively killing us*. We did not take hostages. (4/6)

There were also pogroms, when the non-Jews around would go on murderous rampages, raping women and tearing apart babies. They were often incited by the government, but a) that's not an excuse and b) post-WW2, when the Soviets were very much anti-pogrom, many of the same locations had pogroms. (3/6)

I'm not kidding there. The explicit goal was to expel 1/3, convert 1/3 and kill 1/3. To achieve this, they forced Jewish children into the army (the 'cantonists'), often literally from their mother's arms (jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/488...), among many other things. (2/6)

I go to a local group that rents from a church, and it's so easy to get in. You open the side door, you walk in, there's a sign reminding you to please close the door. That's it. A nearby church is doing construction and just...left its doors open. It's great they can. But it's a strange feeling.

Democrats haven't had many trifectas, and they have gotten things done every time they've had them. "Well, why didn't they stop [XYZ]?" generally has one of two answers: 1. They were busy preventing [much worse thing] 2. I don't know, why didn't you give them the votes to actually be able to? (4/4)

They did this with a razor-thin margin in the Senate, 51-50 (you generally need 60+ to stop filibusters). And 2009-2011 got federal anti-hate-crime protections for queer people, a repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, & Obamacare--and would've gotten us a public option if Ted Kennedy hadn't died. (3/4)
