I don't even understand what a "creative limitation" would be. That looks like an oxymoron.

MORE CHURROS BEFORE BED!!! (I remember looking up mid-dance and being like, "is that...Mr. Art Slade in there!?" and then you ran away. Like a superhero whose secret identity had just been outed. Sorry about that.)

I had a dream last night in which @arthurslade.bsky.social was dressed up in a mascot costume as the Noid (anyone remember the Noid) and kept going to authors’ signings at a book fair to get people to buy more books by doing a weird Noid dance. No more before bed churros for me, I guess.

No word of a lie, this is 25% of where I read on my Kobo. Waiting rooms. Because then it’s fun to sit in a chair for two hours.

Doc: ?? Me: Every time I have tried to book a physical with routine cancer screening, the clinic has to cancel the appointment because either the doctor isn't here or the doctor will not perform routine physical exams on patients of a particular gender. It's been a while. I'm working on it. Doc: Oh.

Doc: That's wonderful. And you're also getting regular PAP tests? Me: Well, that's another story. Doc: ?? Me: I've been trying to do so for the last four years, but Dr. Doctor is often away for 6-8 months at a time. Doc: Other doctors at our clinic can... Me: Let me stop you there. 2/3

Me: I'm here to get an Rx renewal Doc: (actually looking at my chart) Do you have a family doctor? Me: Yep. Dr. Doctor, at this clinic. Doc: Great. And you're getting your regular screenings and physicals? Me: The breast cancer screening program is great! I get a mammogram every two years! 1/3

I’d say consider yourself lucky. I went to my doctor’s clinic (not my doctor tho) and told the doc I had haemorrhoids which itched and bled and his recommendation was that I should eat more salad and use OTC cream. Not a single suggestion of the poop chute scoop.

To sum up: I now need to book medical services with four separate agencies, when I used to, 25 years ago, book a single physical exam once every two years. More, if you include buttholes. That's SPECTACULAR health care, SK Gov't. Just. Amazing in terms of efficiency and coordination of care.

Okay, so I've called the women's health clinic to ask if I can book my PAP test through them. I could also call up my OB/GYN, I guess, but it's a waste of provincial funds to see a specialist for something a family doctor should be qualified to do (even the ones terrified of vaginas).

No, we're not. We've had more than a few years of drought, and the last few years we've had cold and miserable spring/early summer, up until mid July. This year we also got buttloads of rain all through September, so there were crops rotting in the field and couldn't harvest because mud.

So thank you, Saskatchewan Government, for doing less than the absolute least you could do to support preventative medicine and ongoing health care with regard to cancer screening for women. When someone shows you who they are, believe them. -30-

It’s a good godsdamned thing I’m at extremely low risk for cervical cancer. In the past five years, I’ve gone through perimenopause, menopause, and am now post-menopausal. And in that time, I haven’t had a single fucking Pap test, because he’s never in the country and the other doctors at his clinic

Maintaining a health system where doctors are paid, not for patient care, but for fifteen minute appointments, but only in person, and who are not permitted to practice in provincial health facilities, is not maintaining a health system.

So to the Minister of Health and the entire Government of Saskatchewan, who are all in favour of jetting off to Calgary to see their favourite private physician so they don’t have to deal with this absolute bullshit they’ve created, I hope you’re REEEAL healthy.

When I called to book my biennial mammogram, they were great! I had an appointment within a month, no fuss, just a couple of squished boobs and BO (you can’t wear deodorant when you have a mammogram). But if you want to look after your cervical health, apparently waiting five years is totally okay.

And, like, the last time I did this, the doctor I saw couldn’t even figure out, while looking at my actual health record, what my Rx was, the dosage, the frequency…SHE was asking ME what to prescribe. I’m …actually not sure she’s a real doctor. I sure as shit don’t want her scraping my cervix.

Millicent (cenobyte) Bystander, Snark Czar @cenobyte.ca · 25/09/2026
but my OB/GYN doesn’t require an appointment to renew Rx; he phones me to see how I’m doing and we discuss things, and then his office renews the Rx…BY FAX. Not my family doctor’s clinic. And now my Rx is done in a week and they don’t have appointments so I have to do a walk-in.

I have to book an appointment to come in to get a doctor to sign off on my Rx renewal. The pharmacy faxed the request a month ago. They haven’t received the renewal. I called the clinic to ask when they might be sending that in. They don’t. I have to go to the clinic and be seen, and, like, fine…

I just checked the doctor’s booking app, and he has an appointment available in early November, so I booked that. Then I called the clinic because I also need them to SEND A FAX to my pharmacy renewing my Rx. Nope. Can’t do that. Clinic didn’t receive the Pharmacist’s FAX (who has my fax?)

Every year, I call back. Every year, my family doctor is not in the country. I started requesting a physical in May this year. I was told he wouldn’t be back until the end of July, so I called back at the end of July. Now it’s August. Called back in August. They said well, September.

Millicent (cenobyte) Bystander, Snark Czar @cenobyte.ca · 25/09/2026
Oh, they said, well, they said, the female doctor doesn’t have any appointments until two months from now. “I’ve already waited three months for the unqualified doctor; are you telling me I now have to wait two more months?” Well, yes. I told them I’d wait for my family doctor to return.

“They can’t possibly be qualified to do a physical if they refuse to do a basic physical exam based on their patient’s gender. That’s not how medicine works.” Well, they said, we can book you with a female doctor. “I don’t care which genitals my doctor has; I’ll be in in two days for my physical”

Millicent (cenobyte) Bystander, Snark Czar @cenobyte.ca · 25/09/2026
“Okay, well, my family doctor is a man also, and he’s completed a physical; you guys told me to book with someone else because my family doctor isn’t available. I did that. And now you’re telling me the other doctors at your clinic can’t do it because they’re not qualified?” Oh, they’re qualified.
100
Millicent (cenobyte) Bystander, Snark Czar @cenobyte.ca · 25/09/2026
I was confused. I asked “does the man have a medical degree?” They said he did. “Is the man a doctor?” They said he is. “Is he qualified to practice family medicine?” They said he is. “Great,” I said. “I’ll be in for my appointment.” No, they said, he can’t do it. "Why?” …he’s a man.

Four years ago I booked a physical with one of the other doctors, as the clinic suggested. I waited three months for that appointment. Two days before, the clinic called to tell me the doctor couldn’t possibly do a physical because he’s a man.

Every time I call MY FAMILY DOCTOR for a physical, their clinic tells me he's out of the country. They very kindly offer to let me display my vagina to any of their other doctors EXCEPT THE ONES WHO REFUSE TO LOOK AT VAGINAS.

Sorta like how embracing technological change in industry in general ruined the environment and created and sustained massive gaps in equity. It may be inevitable, but that doesn't mean close your eyes and think of England.
