All law enforcement are highly trained individuals who nevertheless must be forgiven any mistakes due to the rapidity of the situation and extreme danger. Is probably the one truly radical departure and it pretty explicitly hints that this shares The Shining universe. I think this would have been a tighter story without it but it's also defensible with the role of the *imaginary friend* who is not so imaginary. (Not really a spoiler.)

Changing Carrie from a student who already hates her peers to a naive but extremely friendly homeschool kid who is discovering her wings is brutally effective when you see her getting crushed. The choice to expand a new plot angle with a wider psych presence that helps in the destruction

What horrified me was the angle on Instagram stalking and harassment was *dead accurate*. I saw admin at a school come into a HS class I was subbing and rip the students to pieces because they had apparently bullied a teacher out with social media stalking and nobody wanted to fill the opening.

The show isn't terrible. I enjoyed it generally, although it looks like he's tying several other King stories into this if it goes to season 2 (Firestarter, The Shining/Dr Sleep)

I watched that again a few months ago and the 3rd act is a masterpiece of building dread with Dillinger utterly unaware that he's obsolete. It continues Mann's theme of a doomed protagonist working towards his own destruction (see Thief and Heat)

On Michael Mann, I appreciate his theme of the doomed protagonist working towards his own destruction in Thief, Heat, and Public Enemies. The third act of Public Enemies is a masterclass in building dread as Dillinger is being hunted down and he can't understand that he's obsolete.
