My child drew a portrait of me. I do not have hair. I was not wearing glasses at the time. Silly goose’s get muted. Don’t be a silly goose.

When I was younger I would listen to Rush or Hannity, and joke that I was “keeping an eye on the opposition.” I would find myself yelling at the radio in the car so I stopped bc it was bad for me. MMFA took that idea, and did it at scale, and broke the brains of some really talented journalists.

I think it’s easy to write people off because they are Trump supporters and so you should do it.

Got it. It’s right between “get milk (please remember 2% this time, honey)”, and “restore faith in democracy.”

I think most people in this country already interact plenty conservatives and don’t need to actively search out lunch with someone to know or pressure test ideas. That seems like the thought of someone deep in a bubble telling you to get out of your bubble.

I am a middle-class white guy & safe. I lack the resources to protect people I care about who aren’t, so I use my vote to protect them, and reduce harm. Tom is wealthy & famous so he is able to personally protect those who cares about. So he doesn’t have to vote in a way that protects others.

The Tom Morello thing is a really good reminder that even when they are mostly ideologically aligned with us, the rich don’t actually care about us.

My lack of desire to lunch with a person who thinks that my black trans cousin is subhuman is not emotional disregulation, and since culture war is the main ideological divide in this country at this point, it’s not making up a person to be mad at to make this point.

Going to lunch with someone who thinks that my black trans cousin is subhuman isn’t a thing that I plan to do, but glad to know it’s not a deal breaker for you.

For what it’s worth, I went and read through the replies to the thread he QTed and there was roughly 1% of them that didn’t just agree with him, and that 1% was the only person providing actually sources.

I said this in a reply yesterday but will reiterate here: I have seen an extensive public conversation about rehabilitating men who commit rape and grossly insufficient conversation about ensuring women who experience rape are not punished for it.

There there was an Indian restaurant in the San Fernando Valley about 10 years ago that was so good that despite the fact that literally everyone in our party of six got *severe* food poisoning, three weeks later we were all saying should we go back?

Sheryl identifies an escalating cycle of violence here, but like many people who fall into this trap, decides that one side just must be more virtuous than the others. They never connect this attitude to the opposition's increasingly escalatory behavior.

My personal take on it is that individual voters don’t matter it’s the way that they use their voice. If enough low information voters here people that they perceive as Democrats saying don’t vote for Harris then they’re going to say even the Democrats don’t think you should vote for Harris.

This is only my personal experience so grain of salt, but it had nothing to do with the closeness of the race. I didn’t vote in Florida. Most NADER voters didn’t vote in Florida. It had to do with seeing what my voice taking votes from Gore to the country to people I knew and into the world.

The funny thing about saying the far left is my policy goals are to the left of almost every person that you’re thinking of when you say the far left, but I have the knowledge that my policy goals are not going to be achieved in my lifetime, they might not even be achieved in my child’s lifetime

It’s mostly this now my vote for Nader in California didn’t tip the scales to bush, but it was me and the thousands of other people who went to a Nader rally and watched Michael Moore and Eddie Vedder and all these other people who we respected say that bush and Gore were the same.

A thing that I’ve realized across 00 16 & 24 is that the outsized voice of the abstainers has knock on effects. High info complainers still end up going to vote, bc that’s who they are. But low info less engaged people hear “well I don’t like Trump (bush) but even the democrats hate FITB” and don’t.

And one thing I recall in 2000 was that part of the movement was “no, he’s not going to win, BUT if a certain percentage of the popular vote is reached certain benefits flow from the FEC. So I voted Nader in Ca bc it was going to make it easier for 3rd parties going forward.

Formerly Saysceej @ceejopolis.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The replies to this thread show that the thing he asks for in this specific post will never happen. I voted for Nader in 2000. I was 19 and bought into the all the same BS. I’ve regretted it since that night. It would be nice for abstainers to have even a little of that humility.
