Same. I don't actually hate Michigan, the state. I hate Michigan, the University. And Michiganders when they don't extend my state and the long-suffering progressives who live here the same courtesy.

Mike refused to explain to Georgia voters why he allows neo-Nazi propaganda to be disseminated from his own home. From his own home. This man wants to take charge over our national affairs when he can't even manage what's happening under his own roof.

ATD Yes, they're smart enough to scheme, connive, and dupe the dimwits in their base. So were the Nazis. But they exist in a fantasy world they think can deal death and destruction to those they hate but not themselves. OC, they're deeply wrong, which demonstrates their idiocy.

Liquid? I usually use dry. The strains I've tried most are D-47, EC-1118, Cote des Blanc, and 71B. But I haven't found one I particularly love. Last year I did a Nottingham Ale yeast, because I wanted to shake things up. Any you've found to be noteworthy?

Well, I'd suggest just checking it with pH strips. Like I said, cheap and easy. If your juice is over 4 (bright blue on the test strips I got from my local brew store), your fermentation could benefit from a more acidic environment. But, up to you!

OhioCiderGuy @ceebee4.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I used to rely on pH strips, which are cheap and get you an approximate reading of the pH. So it's a simple option. But then I got a pH meter which gives me a precise reading. Now I can dial it in and feel (more) confident about the environment for my yeast.

juice. He uses powdered Acid Blend to do so. Then I took a class and learned further you want to target 3.4 using exclusively malic powder. It protects and preserves the fermentation environment, and makes SO2 more effective. Even if you're not adding any, some naturally occurs.

OhioCiderGuy @ceebee4.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Yeah, I avoid late adjustments to my ciders, except a small amount of sweetening to balance and brighten the flavor. But TBF, I do use malic acid at the very start because you kind of need to. Not sure if you've heard this, but a pro cider maker told me it's crucial to knock down the pH in fresh...

How are they gelling with their teammates, on and off the court? I think chemistry on the floor (bolstered by their feelings for one another off the court) could be the factor that gets a Diebler-led team to the top tier of the league.

But cideries certainly could be making high-ABV drinks by supplementing with added sugar. I don't know.

OhioCiderGuy @ceebee4.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Has to do more with spraying than water. Especially around here, all the big apple farms spray and their fruit, while it looks nice, reflects their more industrial cultivation methods. But I read somewhere abused trees concentrate sugar, esp cider apples. And then, sure enough!

OhioCiderGuy @ceebee4.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
I've made high sugar ciders before, but they always come out too hot for my liking.

OhioCiderGuy @ceebee4.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Yes! That's why I'm trying so hard to limit my interventions in the orchard. Trees that are somewhat abused concentrate flavors and sugars in ways that nitrogenous commercial growers blot out to ensure a good crop. Now if the trees would just survive But I've had juices end up in the 1.080's

Really, this is the only way I'd make a mead now. (Longer fermentation if I were bottling, of course.) So why am I not doing so with my ciders? Good question! Btw, a plain off-dry to sweet mead blended in the glass from the taps w/cider has been my biggest revelation so far.
