Maybe, but changing the spelling of a single word (eikplewz, for example) in a book does not get you out of a copyright violation.

Breaking news: The Earth is getting rounder agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...
INBOX:
Earth’s poles are rising by 0.5 to 1 millimeters per year, slowly un-squashing our planet’s slightly flattened, jelly-donut-like shape, according to a new study. Linking satellite measurements of changing altitude across Earth’s surface from 1997 to 2015 to the planet’s shape, researchers found that the rounding effect also seems to be accelerating over time, with the poles rising an extra 0.4 millimeters per year faster every decade. Though our planet seems solid, the Earth’s interior acts more like an extremely slow-flowing liquid, warping over time under forces like the weight of ice sheets and oceans. Currently, our planet bulges out a little around the equator. But as ice sheets melt and reduce the force acting on the Earth at the poles, the equator is gradually cinching in as the poles push upwards, molding our planet into a more spherical shape. [JGR Solid Earth study]

You should see how sad it makes me. Not at all. I mean, I'm old and that's part of it, but you told told me 30 years ago I would have no clue what's on the Billboard Top 100, I'd say "so"?

"It has spent 20 weeks at No. 1 in Canada. This makes it the third-longest-running No. 1 song in the history of the Canadian Hot 100, trailing only Alex Warren's "Ordinary" (21 weeks) and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" (25 weeks)." I've never heard (or heard of) any of these :)

No ticket fees - that was Retail Sales tax. Normally 5% in 1972 Ontario, but 10% was "a premium rate levied on specific luxury and entertainment items (admissions over $3)". Four dollars was a luxury item :)

Wow. And apparently also legal in Vancouver for much of the year. Isn't it considered at least a bit anti-social? Or am I off on a limb here?

"I reject compensation because it is limited to 'reasonable' things" is an interesting stance....aka "I demand that it be unreasonable". And that is before even getting to the facts that is no reason to compensate them, and they should not be using fireplaces in the centre of a city.

Hey @onecityvan.bsky.social can we get rid of these sham tax breaks? The community garden scam costs the city over a million a year for the net benefit of nearly nothing.

Yes, a supermajority to remove, but a majority to make the laws and budgets that could render the position effectively a placeholder. BUT I am whatever the opposite of an expert in US constitutional law is, so my opinion doesn't count! (Keep the 22nd amendment though...that one is load-bearing).

Cecil H. @cecilharr.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Yes, but that's not what your constitution says.... Changing the words only matters if the words (and spirit) are actually being adhered to. And if not, it does not really matter what the words are.

I agree... I wasn't impressed by our insurer, but then found out they were all like that. Unfortunately, the only recourse is to sue your neighbour, which would be fun for no one.
000
Cecil H. @cecilharr.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
That's what I thought too! But no, our homeowners policy would not cover it. Typically *NOBODY'S* insurance covers a tree known to be dangerous.
100
Cecil H. @cecilharr.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Fair! I actually said their insurance "might not cover it". There is (almost?) no insurance that will cover damage from trees known to be dangerous.
100
Cecil H. @cecilharr.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Mentioning that the tree is dead, and since it is dead any damage it does to anyone or anything is *not covered by their home insurance* (or your home insurance) worked for me.

This is at the North Plaza, which is public land not controlled by the VAG, but is just their neighbours. Does not hurt to complain to them anyway. But Event bookings for the plaza go through the City of Vancouver's special events office.
